Yes
Wow, the state of Texas will now has 7 power conference football teams. Maybe Rice will get a call from the ACC to get all SWC schools back to big boy play.
I get SMUâs desperation but still doesnât make sense for ACC. After 9 years, you have to pay SMU full share and Calford would be getting full shares before then too. The existing schools are back to where they started while the other 3 conferences will be signing new deals. Watering down FB also hurts their chances at large bids during that time.
wow! You gotta hand it to the schools unlikely to get poached by BIG/SEC. This move should solidify their chance to survive after the ACC gets poached.
The amount of travel for the Cal and Stanford players is going to be ridiculous. How does that make any sense?
For those saying SMU is dumb. Come on now really? They will now be P5 in any future realignment and the $8M they give up in the AAC - well being a part of the ACC and playing alot more interesting teams will bring much more value to their school than that per year. SMU has loaded donors and doesnât need $ like a UH does. Home run for them. Grand slam actually given their circumstances.
The one thing SMU canât buy is respect. They didnât earn their way into the ACC; they bought their way in. How do they look at themselves in the mirror? Never mind. My SMU friends never saw a mirror they didnât love.
I wouldnât be so sure.
Whoâs going to take them when the ACC collapses?
I sure hope the Big 12 doesnât.
Just goes to show how much brand affiliation matters to schools. You donât even have to have great programs. Middling will do just fine as long as you can be associated with the country club.
But They can actually sustain their situation short term while most schools in their position canât. Oh well, letâs just worry about UH
I am less confident that the ACC will collapse now if they lose some teams like UNC, UVA, Clemson, and Florida State. Teams like Louisville, NC State, Pitt, etc⊠might decide they are better off in the raided ACC than coming over to the Big 12.
Do you think that new look league gets money on par with B12 once the ACC deal wraps? Long time from now so Iâm curious to see who all steps their game up. Things can change fast.
No.
First of all, their TV deal and GOR are set.
Second, once Clemson, FSU, UNC, and perhaps others leave, there wonât be enough value left in the ACC to match the Big 12.
Thatâs dumb. Big recruiting advantage for UH over them. Plus we have other TX schools to play against as well to draw more fans than a Virginia or Boston College opponent lol.
Itâs set for now but they can negotiate a new deal before the current one ends. How that league looks by the 2030s is an unknown
Iâm just SMH at this news. And, no, I donât see the eventual ACC on par with the Big12.
Free for 9 years is crazy - but they did what they had to do to get in to the dance. it will be very interesting to see where it goes from here. no doubt we would have done the same thing if we had to.
Credit to SMU for manufacturing another life boat. Weâll see what the ACC looks like 10 years from now but for now this is a good move for them. On the other Memphis fans have to be even more butt hurt now lol
This is true. It will be good for their program to have games at home with FSU, Clemson etc. So good on them.
But in the back of everybodyâs mind, will be the thought that they didnât earn it and bought their way in.
Probably SMUâs only only choice so canât blame them. I think it makes the ACC look bad as they can be âboughtâ
You have to factor in who they back fill with. Even if they somehow poach WVU and Cinci, they still will have to muck dredge to round out what is lost. So do they want to be with equal schools or be with Marshall and Wake? Because if it became an arms race with ACC taking all the cream AND luring WVU away, I would rather be in Big XII spot to go discount shopping in MW than ACC having to go discount shopping in a post UH-Cinci-SMU-UCF AAC.
Are Oregon and Washington getting full shares in 2024?
