Billionaires are staking their claim on every aspect of American life. College football is just another example. It’s not exactly new, but at least it’s out in the open now, I guess.
Well, “our leadership” has been asking essentially the same people for more money for several decades. And those people (including me) have given. But now age has finally caught up with many of us (including me also), and the passage of time also means that “our leadership” needs some new leaders.
Any volunteers?
If Tilman would create a sinking fund add $20-50M a yr in perpetuity in fact wouldn’t have to do it in perpetuity just say 10 yrs. UH athletic’s would be good to go.
Tillman cannot be the person UH relies on for everything
Why not to who much is given much is required. UO has Uncle Phil. He doesn’t seem to mind ( in fact he loves to) that’s his legacy he wants to be remembered for.
Exactly. How many U of H $Billionaires exist? That is a list I would like to see and find out how much they contribute to U of H.
we have A LOT of high profile alums
You would be shocked at how often that is the case. Oregon has basically one man funding everything for it. Miami is pretty much in the same boat.
Every school has their wealthy alums, only SMU alums give it to athletics, making $ no object. Can you really blame a wealthy alum if they would rather donate to worth while charities than NIL to be wasted on high school prospects. Some of these kids are playing the system seeing who will bite. The list of demands is getting crazy.
I am not blaming anybody. As far as the demands I am 100% for these demands. The market decides. Someone wants to pay? Good for the athlete. Some of you have to understand that collegiate athletes today are basically pro athletes. It is no use to be in denial. These athletes being in college or pro are one play from a career injury. How do you think the so called blue bloods became blue bloods. They paid these athletes under the table. Like it, deny it, that is 100% true.
Some schools that do not go with the change of student athlete will be left behind, that will not be SMU. The difference is, football is a tough sport, if you choose to play you are always one play away from injury, thus the student part. You can always get a degree for free and make it that way. These college players are not all going to be playing on Sundays and they need a degree.
I am definitely rooting for SMU to win it all! if Arizona State is out
They played this Power Inclusion game masterfully and it would be awesome for them, the literal definition of Cinderella (last G5 to get a spot) to win it in their first year.
Just in this year, they will triple what they made last year in the AAC, landed in a spot in an academic prestigious Power 4 conference and made the College Football playoff…something Texas A&M has yet to do and something UT has only done twice.
Just Brilliant!
I think those SMU boys from Texas are going to surprise a lot of the College Football purists!
Don’t put money in it.
If they couldn’t beat BYU or Clemson, then they face steep odds against Penn State.
yeah…and Notre Dame couldn’t beat Northern Illinois
SMU also played some of their worst football in the 1st quarter against Clemson.
I have SMU beating PSU.
Does PSU have more pressure to win than SMU?
So, PSU only letting SMU band play during halftime. No other time during the game despite being in the upper deck.
Absolutely. The sharks are circling James “I can’t win the big game” Franklin. Franklin’s Penn St. record against top 10 teams is 1-12. His FBS record against top ten teams is 1-15.
How could anyone be rooting for pennentatiary u? This is the same school that let, and contributed to a pedophile for decades. The entire town knew about it. The entire sports program should have been shut down for good. Can anyone imagine an entire town, not a few people that “looked the other way”?
The ncaa scumbags worked hand in hand to let the pedophiles do what they wanted to do. If ever a program earned the death penalty this is them.
happy valley should be renamed pedophile valley.
total fluke- they could play that game 100 times and the Catholics would win 99 of them
There is something about SMOO that I don’t like. I figure its a bad taste from the old SWC days. They always struck me as smug and overbearing in victory and whiney and pouty when they lost.
