SMU

But they could beat more than one ranked team.

ND would crush SMU.

UH has 295,000 alumni. Surely somebody made some money.

How many of them care enough to fund the NIL honeypot?

It’s like Stanford. More billionaires than anyone, but none of them care.

Sure, we have some deep pockets and they support UH more than you know. But not enough Tillman’s and Nantz’s.

Smu will be playing PSU and the officials….sponsored by espn.

:joy:

No doubt!

Shout out to former UH QB D’Eriq King for developing SMU QB Kevin Jennings. Both coach and player are similar in their styles of play and King has mentored Jennings to be a difference maker on the field.

Good start for King on his coaching journey.

So in other words, these HS kids are behaving like every other person in the world. Got it.

Not sure why these kids should have to act differently from anyone else. Why is it only certain people are permitted to pursue their economic well being to the fullest extent possible, while others have to “wait their turn”?

Had no idea D’Eric King was the QB coach at SMU. Kudos to him for coaching a playoff QB in Power 4 at only 27.

About to get BEAT DOWN!

SMU started off pretty good, even making it look somewhat easy driving the ball down the field…

Then they got “punched in the mouth” when their QB tried playing the hero.

Then the Pick 6 happened…SMU looks emotionally deflated rn, I don’t think they come back from this one.

Penn St. must have gotten the memo to put the opposing band in the nose bleed section. I really hate this trend and I am not a band person. It is poor sportsmanship and a bad look for the home team.

Its called "home field advantage ".

Why in the world would you place the opposing band close enough that they could affect your own offense’s ability to communicate???

This is a very important Game…you do all you can to win!

Most schools do it.

I believe the Big 12 does the same thing, iirc.

I hope King becomes a head coach one day

He was screwed over so much that he probably knows how to guide these student athletes more than anyone

Penn State also instructed the opposing band to not play except during halftime. That’s nuts! Cold and windy up there.

Remember when the UT Longhorn band was crammed into the 300 level at TDECU. It looked pathetic because they didn’t have room for instruments and barely enough for the members. At least that part was packed.

It’s relatively new and I hate it. And not all the big teams do that. Bama, Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn, Ohio State, LSU, UCLA, Aggies, Clemson, and more still place visiting bands in the lower levels (although Bama shoved UT up high as retaliation).

One of my favorite things as a Coog kid growing up was traveling to SWC stadiums and having band and visitors sections along the sidelines. Even in Austin we’d get endzone to 30 yard line tickets. It’s what made college football better imo.

The price of everything now and NIL and shoving Baylor’s band in the 300 level when the stadium isn’t full is bush league and is killing my interest. I didn’t attend a single college game in person this year.

Edited to add that I think the SEC is smart. One of the reasons watching their games is fun because you can actually see visiting fans and bands and hear them. It adds to the spectacle.

You do understand people are literally giving away their generational wealth to help their school win?

They are looking for any little competive advantage

I would be mad as H$ll if my school sabotaged our NIL efforts and didn’t place the opposing band, with their incredibly loud noise distraction element, in the furthest corner of the stadium.

Penn State did the right thing here. We aren’t giving away participation trophies and the opposing band IS PART of the visiting squad!

These schools are trying to WIN
