Just pointing out that it was not a conspiracy against the ACC as you seem to imply. Just straight numbers.
I didn’t say it was a conspiracy.
I’m saying that the ACC is LEGITIMATELY not viewed as being as good as the other P4 conferences.
No “conspiracy” there.
If it were, then the ACC champ wouldn’t have been shut out of a bid last year or a bye this year in favor of the Big 12 champ…or even a G6 champ.
As for this “what if SMU had beaten Clemson,” scenario, I put that right up there with the “what if Army had beaten ND” scenario…as if that was EVER going to happen; and of course, it didn’t.
Again, if ifs and buts were cherries and nuts, then we’d all have a Merry X-mas.
Haven’t seen this sentiment in this thread so far, but…
Some UH fans will see SMU’s recent rise and still get on message boards and blame the state of the football program on the “average fan”.
“Blah blah blah our attendance is why we’re struggling”
“Blah blah blah our fans are not donating $20 to NIL”
I’ll admit that the latter is a step in the right direction and all of us should chip in whatever we can, but at the end of the day that’s peanuts compared to what is truly needed to compete in todays landscape.
The truth is that college football is more of a rich man’s sport than ever before. I agree with posters that point out that folks shouldn’t be “spending other people’s money” so to speak, but it’s not spending other’s money to point out the realities of where college athletics are.
As “average fans” we certainly have our jobs to do wrt supporting UH athletics, but in today’s world we aren’t the ones moving the needle. UH will go as far as our big money donors want us to go. SMU is proof of this. The “average fan” at SMU was supporting SMU athletics less than the average UH fan and they still zoomed by us.
I want some UH fans to stop eating their own and start telling the truth about why they passed us. Selling out the stadium consistently would benefit the program in a multitude of ways and it still wouldn’t allow us to catch SMU. The basketball program is a high level program because big money donors want it to be one not because of how often Fertitta Center sells out.
Ya know, were I single, I’d probably be willing to put in $20 a month, or possibly more, for something like this.
But being married, I know that if my wife found out I was putting ANY amount of our money into something like this, both my marriage, and possibly my very life itself, could be at stake.
I value both my marriage, and my life TOO MUCH to risk losing both on something like that.
For 20.00. Yikess.
After my 10 year old son couldn’t figure out why the microwave wouldn’t turn on this weekend, (he still had the door open) I’m thinking of rerouting his monthly 529 Plan contribution to NIL.
Cool kids table? more like the rich kids table
Law - I’m sorry but how? I mean it’s just $20. Hell some folks spend more than $20 on fast food a month…
Hey listen, my wife doesn’t like me paying money for Elks Lodge membership, which is less than $20 a month.
If she found out I was blowing our dough on this…then I could very well have a domestic RIOT on my hands.
NOT worth the risk!
If Army had won then ND wouldn’t be in…
I always heard candy and nuts… who gets cherries for Christmas…
You obviously haven’t tried many of those crappy X-mas fruitcakes that get given as gifts at X-mas every year!
Huh? Army won AAC – 35-14
They didn’t beat ND…
If they had they’d be in and ND out…
@uhlaw97 didn’t marry a sports fan. I can convince my wife to go to road games with me as long as it includes hotel, restaurants AND the game. Receptions are great fun too but little of that money goes direct to the school/team.
BTW, one case in point about SMU is that Chiefs’ owner, Clark Hunt, was quite involved in the ACC title game planning. The Hunts are also big donors and all kids have gone to SMU. A similar BMD would be Tilman Fertitta in hoops as the Rockets owner. UH is dominant in hoops. SMU is getting there in hoops as well as they’re ranked in the low 40s in the first year with Andy Enfield. They have three four stars coming in next year.
The point is correct that SMU needed this Playoff to keep the momentum with big donors rolling. The alumni (~1700 per year) aren’t numerous enough to sustain the program without the big money donors. Ole Miss committed to $10M in NIL this year and Ohio State put in $20M. I doubt SMU did even $10M this year. Ole Miss missed the Playoff and Ohio State is #8 out of 12. They still have a good shot due to that NIL haul.
Law you need raise possibly. Or go into the Public sector in your line of work.
Your living dangerously for measely 20 bucks month.
I already work in the public sector.
Do you mean “private” sector?
Gotcha . Misread the post. No room for error in those crappy Confs. BIG12 is only 1/2 step ahead at this point.
Sorry, yes out of Public sector-- Govt n into Private where you can chg Coogs Alums more.
INHO, Getting FSU and Clemson into the B12 is a good idea. It is not so much adding them as it is to play DEFENSE so the BIG 10 and SEC does NOT get them.
