Sorry some schools were Conference USA.
we tend to take in more Transfers than the average program becuase we are located in many of the elite recruits “hometown” same for SMU…which doesnt get counted in the the rankings
on a full class (20+) recruits…85+ is where concern would come in…an ideal multiyear average for us would probably be around 60-ish, that would put us atop most of the g5…
but i tend to be forgiving of the number because like i said we get a ton of transfers…
the best new player next season is going to be the troy transfer and the alabama transfer neither will be counted in our recruit rankings
There are 128 FBS teams so how is being #71 FCS level recruiting?
60ish sounds about right to me too. I was thinking 50-60.
Thank you. It’s appreciated.
Don’t be getting all sobering on a holiday weekend.
We have some FCS-level fans on this board, IMO.
You have to be patient Cooglover. No one can erase the recruiting that applesause did for three years. I want everyone of his recruits to prove me wrong and eat crow. Believe me I would do it in a heart bit. That is how quickly a program can turn from National power to get blown over in bowl games.
I have been following recruiting religiously for decades, but I do realize now that I’m older that the rankings aren’t nearly as important as they’re made out to be. I remember one year Florida and Texas were 1 and 2 in recruiting, and four years later both had losing seasons. Levine’s best class was probably ‘14. Four guys—Adams, Howard Wilson, Isaiah Johnson, and Steven Dunbar—are now on NFL rosters; Mason Denley, Garrett Davis, and Khalil Williams made all-conference; and Marcus Oliver, Jerald Carter, Carter Wall, Colton Freeman, Romello Brookner, and Jeremy Winchester started. Yet that was his lowest ranked class even with 26 signees. We finished #75 overall and 5th in the AAC. That doesn’t mean you don’t want to finish as high as you can, but I wouldn’t concern myself too much with finishing, say, #74 instead of #59. We probably won’t crack the top 60 this year because we’re only able to sign 19 or so. Look for where we end up with average ranking per recruit. Still a ways to go but right now we’re 1st in the AAC.
What happened to Chambers? I didn’t see him in the stat box for the OU game.
Once again, most freshman recruits struggle to see the field until midway through their sophomore seasons, if then.
I think I am far more optimistic about transfers and Jucos than some. Yes, it’s nice to have a kid play in your system five years. But the Jucos and transfers that come here aren’t playbook dummies. Most adjust quickly. And most Jucos are hyper-competitive. If some first team all conference kid from San Fernando JC wants to play here then I’m full on in support of it.
Then you realize Payton Turner was a 2* just like grant stuard, both recruited by apple white… I think the talent is there, but its getting refined for the first time

I dont think recruiting is an indication of effort you put. They just stood still, how was that type of defense supposed to be “violent/aggressive”. Look at the clip of our guys just being manhandled by sophomores. You have to blame coaching at that point.
Thank you sir.
Yes we were manhandled but you can see that OU was very well coached. Two of our linemen were boxed in by 3 of theirs while our end had to deal with 2. Our guy that looks like he was just standing there was shadowing Hurts in case he took off running.
OU did look bigger, faster and stronger than us so the only way we can match teams like that who are ready for us is to get better recruits.
The only way we can get quite a few 4 stars and a couple of 5 stars a year is to become a P5.
One of the reasons OU is well coached, even though they are only sophomores a something that CDH said after the game. OU has had most of their coaches in place for 5 years running. Think about our guys…some of them, like our OL and secondary have had a different coach every single year. King has had a different OC every year he’a Been here and a different offense to learn every season. That makes a huge difference; we need stability going forward and CDH brings that.
Mr Turner has has played well since his freshman year. I think he got hurt last year about the time the rest of the two deep got hurt on the DL.
What I see is a four man rush. No attacking. It may just be because it is the first game, but I have seen this before. That DB comes in way too late for a delayed.
so those 56 and 57 and 75 ranked classes finished in top 10 and won a new year’s day bowl game in 2015…
That shows you how much rankings matter…
Until we convince recruits we have a stable program with continuous leadership we will have a hard time getting the top rated players.
