Stadium Construction & Updates pt2

You don’t know hot until you have installed insulation, hung sheet rock( without a nail gun) in Juarez, middle of summer in a maquiladora with no AC.

I’ve done the insulation and roofing thing, but I think the hottest was sandblasting the inside of metal chemical tanks in the summer at a ship channel chemical plant.

It had to be at least 150 degrees in there.

The skyline view was a big deal, remember the end zones when it first opened?

If not for airflow concept, rotating 90 degrees counter clockwise and moving it closer to Cullen would have been ideal. Better view of skyline could have been made. Parking garage built along Scott st. This would leave the long side of stadium facing campus for appearances and could have a court area that was surrounded by the football and basketball facilities on the intersection there. Allow for pep rallies and events before both (three counting womens basketball) games

That said airflow and comfort were probably larger considerations in the construction - considering location being Houston.

If they hadn’t rebuilt Cougar Woods in the same spot, that would have left them a lot more room to work with too.

The difference being you got paid to do that. Fans pay to attend UH football and don’t want to bake while doing so.

I’m not sure I buy into the “airflow” thing. Most people in the stadium would enjoy a better breeze if the stadium was North-South, even if they had squared it up with Scott. We’re far more likely to get S-SE winds, which are largely blocked by the south side of the stadium.

I suspect they oriented it mostly to fit into a long-term land use plan. The garage was always going to be right across from Fertitta to help with basketball parking.

what about “GO COOGS” for a night game on one of the skyscrapers facing the FB stadium.
May not have one visible…not sure.

I am just commenting based upon the document provided. Simply airflow more important than skyline . If there are third options, I am not aware to comment.

Then just a personal note on how I think it would have been cool to set up. In my personal fantasy set up (with zero chance of ever being reality), moving stadium parking 100 yards further from basketball will likely have little to no impact on fan experience.

(I could have broken my original post into better separation of the two points)

Not directing this to you or any other post on this thread but this was the last post since my entry. However, aligning the garage along Scott St.? I would imagine far more problems than UH is currently experiencing.

I doubt moving the garage 50 feet and changing its orientation would present a major problem.

I think that he is talking about the congestion it would bring to Scott Street.

I don’t park in that garage so I do not know the specific issues. I know it lets out onto Holman only and I guess splits traffic to Scott and Cullen. I park in garage by architecture building so I don’t have any traffic.

Thinking about it though. If it was on the corner along Scott, there could be an exit direct on to Scott without turning at the light at Holman. Next, there could be a second exit direct to Holman which could direct the flow to Cullen. Sending out to two different streets would ideally speed up the exit.

PS. no worries bringing it up after my post as I mentioned the topic.

From all the feedback on CoogFans it seems like we need to demolish the stadium and build it right back up!

Preferably with a retractable roof!

Just a reminder to everyone that the stadium garage was built before Robertson was demolished. (I had forgotten this fact myself.)

Exactly and someone comes up with 500M’s. Heck why don’t we buy the Astrodome, rehab it and with the same donors paint the outdoor shell U of H, make it a retractable roof too, free Papasitos, free Becks Prime, free parking, free back vibrating message chair. Let’s go.

Just don’t forget the palm trees this time.
