“Paint a bunch of junk on the ceiling?” How many times have you actually been in the Moores Opera House, Coogman93? Rephrase that, How many times have you actually been to an opera, a concert, a ballet? That “junk” happens to have been done by a famous artist, Frank Stella, and UH was honored for him to create that “junk” on the ceiling. People like you amaze me with your ignorance. Oh, by the way, Rice has multiple times the endowment as UH.
I liked the orchestral performance that I saw in the Moores opera house. Thought it was an amazing facility. Not sure why anyone has an issue with it.
yeah…Frank Stella is a legendary artist.
I agree with Stealth, you literally called one of our most valuable art pieces, on the entire campus…“junk on the ceiling”
The real question is, is it symmetrical?
I take it you do not go to art museums.
FYI: Don’t go
Definitely not junk on the ceiling. Love it. Helps give Moore’s something unique.
The stadium is coming along nicely and will be quite the gem. It fits us perfectly now, just hope we need to expand in the near future.
The question that I have is:
How were you able to manage to deliver an amazing product with such a low price?
To me this is an amazing investment.
If at some point it is possible to “re-coat” the outside with this logo on one side and the other side with our new UH logo that would be truly awesome.
Past to present.
Now that’s a problem I’d LOVE to have! Lol
Let’s remember though, despite what our friends at rival programs claim… fan support goes far beyond in-person attendance.
If every Coog simply supports our program in whatever big or small way they can, we will be unstoppable.
A good start would be getting a friend or 2, or a coworker, or a neighbor to a game… even just one. Go out of your way to make it fun for them, buy them some beers, show them you love UH, see if you can make into a thing.
Wear red on Fridays, put a sticker on your car, don’t publicly drag the school (do it on here if you must lol), show pride for our achievements, flash the hand sign to other Coogs, and stay informed about what’s happening with the school.
Haters can’t stand when we’re happy and likable.
In my dream world where money isn’t an obstacle all garages would’ve been built with green/park roofs to help with heat and flooding.
Imagine that stadium garage roof as a garden where people paid to have dedicated tailgate spots.
It sounds cliche but it really is about the people. UH was lucky (still is) to have the right folks in all the key places. Starts at the top with the BOR and Chancellor - at other schools the admin slows things down, here they push you to go faster and stronger.
Mack Rhoades, one of the best facilities ADs in the NCAA, and Jeramiah Dickey, now AD at Boise State and biggest optimist on the planet lol…Chancellor Khator brought Mack to UH to deliver on facilities and it was easy to see why.
The feasibility studies he launched were critical. Helped us stay focused. There was a sense we knew exactly what we needed to accomplish at RFP time. This gave us more time to toy with ideas and think outside the box, find ways to cut costs, it all added up.
The design team, some of them UH alum, a lot of them had not designed stadiums before, but all were good at their jobs. They threw out all sorts of silly ideas and weren’t afraid to look stupid… There was so much to think about and so many decisions to be made, we needed outsiders to say things like “wait a sec guys, why IS Robertson Stadium oriented like that? why do we have to keep it this way? we don’t…” lol
Most of all though, credit to our contractors, partners and vendors on the construction team and to internal folks like TJ Meagher (who’s currently killing it yet again on the FOC). I honestly don’t know how they operate so efficiently… I do know every person from the welders to the PMs to the safety inspectors take great ownership and pride in their work.
TLDR - We were prepared and everyone did their job, and trusted others to do theirs. This isn’t to say we didn’t have problems or screw some things up. We just cared more about seeing it through then getting stuck .
When I looked at the live camera shots of the construction, I don’t see any evidence of the two bridges shown on the artist conception photo of the above.
Maybe because nobody in the athletic department really cares about soccer.
The South bridge has been in place since the summer. The north bridge hasn’t been installed yet.
@92010Coogs I’ll mention this too, then stop rambling and give y’all your board back lol…
The stadium approval / funding process, the part I was the most involved in, it was long and difficult… a true grind. We had some miracles and very close calls, and came very close to being a USF or Memphis.
Going from all that stress to sitting with designers picking out samples was quite the 180… one could breathe and have fun and celebrate the really impossible part being over.
So true, I have been on projects that ran way over budget, P.M.'s quitting, you name it, you have seen it. Really proud of you and your team, outstanding accomplishments. Did ASBA recognize you then? For sure they should have.
I get it if soccer was not part of the plan. Too bad but you can’t have everything.
Is it possible to have more seating in between seating benches? Norms have evolved through time but there is so much space between rows and would the infrastructure accept more load?
Thanks, when I looked at the photos by Coogman93, I could see it.
