Stadium Noise

For the Tech game, how much do you think TDECU noise actually affects the game?

I know Louisville ’16 is the gold standard (false starts, penalties, chaos), but did we see the same kind of impact in the Memphis ’15 or Texas games? Curious what folks remember — were there noise-caused penalties or key moments where the crowd really swung things?

The only time I’ve heard TDECU be loud loud in the past few years has been:

Against Rice in 2022 when they were one score away from an OT. The rest was very standard volume for crowd noise.

I know two other stadiums that have definitely pumped in crowd noise before turning it off when the snap happens. UTSA and Arizona. At Arizona, it was very obvious in the student section, but not obvious on the visitor side.

UTSA was definitely loud, but the announcer was riling that crowd up.

He’s talking about crowd noise at TDECU. Not road games.

First half of 2011 CUSA CCG vs Southern Miss at Robertson was the loudest I recall.

But definitely TDECU crowd noise has played a factor in a lot of close games with false starts on crucial 3rd downs when the stadium gets loud

The 2009 Tech game, with 32,000+ in Robertson Stadium, was super loud.

Might throw 'em off; it’s been a while since they’ve played in a stadium as quiet as ours.

At the 2011 Conference USA Championship against Southern Miss at some point our defense was on the field and trying to make a stop on a critical 3rd & long play, which was the loudest I ever remember, but somehow Southern Miss converted. And that conversion completely quieted the stadium. I’ve been at all the home games since then and it never got that loud again in my opinion. 2015 Memphis, Navy, Temple, 2016 Oklahoma, Louisville, 2023 Texas, all loud but not like that 2011 CUSA Championship game. Disclaimer: this could be my emotions speaking because I never quite got over that 2011 CUSA loss.

I was a student in 2009 and rushed the field. Watching this clip I forgot WE were the ranked team. Was there a significance to this game as to why we would rush the field?

Years of pent up emotion about the big 12, finally playing one of the Texas teams at home after several years, plus the delayed celebration of beating #5 Oklahoma State the week prior.

The student section during the 2015 Memphis game was LOUD, especially when they missed the field goal at the end, everyone was screaming and hugging each other.

The student section during the 2016 Louisville game was f****** wild and LOUD. Also got to rush the field, so it was wonderful.

However, the LOUDEST and I mean ear piercing loud I have ever experienced was this years NCAA Basketball championship game (UH vs UF). Never in my life had I experienced my ears hurting from the moment I walked into the sitting area.

The Kick-6 against OU at NRG was ear-piercing loud as well.

Drives me nuts that so many people near us watch 3rd down like they’re at the symphony.

With as many fans from both teams in attendance, this will be like UT vs OU in the Cotton Bowl. Every play gets a crowd reaction from half the fans.

I was on TV for that one too! I was right there on the front row when Wilson ran by.

Nothing compares to memphis, Oklahoma, and louisville games.

The texas game wasnt what i thought it was going to be either but i think tech will and should be loud from the jump.
