Do we have a good strength and conditioning coach? I’m watching Espn on how Nebraska beat a superior Miami team thru S&C. Nebraska used to win on S&C because they had superior S & C. Also Miami won by making Lb into def linemen to add speed. Miami was about speed.

My son says this is the best S&C coach he has ever had. Derek is a gym rat and loves to workout and condition. He uses his program even when they are not in session.

CJC does prefer undersized players on the edge to create TFLs. We also have plenty of fluidity between LBs and Safeties.

Nebraska was on the cutting edge of strength and conditioning. They were also on the cutting edge of steroids.

Nebraska was losing to OU too much in the 70s then Tom Osborne etc started the first ever real S&C along with sports nutrition which is why Nebraska rose up in the later 70s and 80s then other teams copied them then negated Nebraska’s edge.

Plus Nebraska used to give out what they called, country farm ships to any good players in Neb. To go to Neb. As a preferred walk on with a fully paid ship and many partial qualifiers and UT made them stop it all when they joined the big 12. It was part of why Neb wanted to leave. Basically now, Neb doesn’t have any of those advantages now which explains their struggles. In the late 70s and 80s I recall Neb. Playing LSU in 2 orange bowls where Neb easily beat LSU and Neb looked liked an nfl team compared to LSU bc of their S&C and other advantages explained here.

Yea but how is that equating to their on field performance?
Today Neb isn’t what it was so they are struggling. Osborne knew the culture but now with new coaches there every 5 yrs, the new coaches don’t understand what made Neb great.
I can tbink of several great plays by Derek including running a fumble back 90 yards

I think we just had a better offense and skill players with a good def. We beat a good Neb team with all their advantages.
Basically UH beat a very good Neb team in that cotton bowl bc Neb was a beast back then thru S&C and some cheating with farm ships.

What can you point to that says we have a problem with S&C? Are you in the weight room with them? What would you do different?
I was just wondering how ours was and brought up Nebraska as a point of how they were good when they had a superior system and were at the forefront of S&C.

She’s Derek’s Mom. Derek is our D lineman that ran a fumble back 90 yards for a TD and was out running people on the play.
