I posted that I don’t care about seeing downtown. I did not tell anyone else what they should care about. I do wonder why it’s such a big deal to some of you. I wonder if you would have given it any thought had the notch not been there from the beginning and the statement made about being able to see downtown.
But you are free to care about anything you want. We all have our own opinions and this is an opinion driven board.
The problem is that it was there at the beginning and there for a reason. It was completely negated shortly after, showing again that there is no master plan
Yes, but that was about 13 years ago, messages and necessities change. We were in CUSA at the time and demand was less than it should be for the B12. Recruiting was also different. If you want to run with the big dogs, you can’t stay on the porch.
We went away from it within a few years of building when we decided to put the indoor practice facility there. It was short sighted and a waste of prior resources.
That said, I’m good with doing away with it now but it was ridiculous when we built the indoor practice facility. Is what it is now.
I always wondered why there wasn’t a downtown view notch when the Astrodome was built.
I’ll bet if TDECU was built as a fully air conditioned, enclosed stadium there would be no discussion on this forum about the view. We would just say turn on the AC and play ball.
There a comment on this thread about the decrepid Rob. Yeah it was on life support, but even back when it was built the architects thought it a brilliant idea to build restooms and concessions on multiple levels. In TDECU we decided lets only have one level of restrooms and concession on the first level for the upperdecks so have to walk a mile in the middle of a game to get a beer, food, or restroom. Not to mention moms with little kids probaly hate the design of TDECU as being easy access to amenities with families with kids that dont have the vast money of big donors to sit on the first level, club seats, or suites. It nice we are getting the nice end zone facilitiy and have some more premium seatss added for big donors, but once again UH overlooking the average fans sits upper decks the ones that are the backbone for actually filling seats of the stadium because there are whole lot more of us. Sometimes Pez gives off this feeling to me like Im a peon with me and my father who have seats behind the net at Fertitta and 300 on home side at TDECU. The shell spaces is already there for at least adding restrooms upper deck homeside, of course if ask Pez he will throw out absurd price the build out would be like with the cameras at Feritta being switched. Yet somehow whenever it is a price to add some big donor seats its such a doable cost. Anything added for the regular fans is so overly expensive yet not when it comes to adding an adminity for big donor seating.
UH just spent to build out the suite level adding more over the offseason. Are building the massive endzone facility whic UH Football does need, but somehow cant find a way to build a concession stand and restrooms on the third deck in shell space that is clearly meant to be where that goes.
Not saying it is right, but I bet that when regular fans start to donate as much as the big money donors do, then we will see those smaller concessions added.
If the sole purpose of going to the stadium is to just watch the game, then people are doing it wrong.
There is a much better view on a large TV in your living room. Closer views of the action, better replays, voice descriptions of what is happening, summaries of the rules for close calls, more comfortable seating, AC, cheaper/possibly better food, etc…
The reason for going to the stadium is to be part of the event. This may include cheering for the team, yelling at refs, talking with people around you, seeing unique things, enjoying the stadium environment, etc…
Correct me if I’m wrong but there are also no concessions or bathrooms on the North side upper deck. Everything is on the first level. The issue is with the press boxes and current suites that push the upper deck on the South side so far away from field level.
Maybe when we start selling out the stadium the lack of bathroom access on the South side will become a compliance issue and force Pez’s hand?
Let’s face it, up until now hardly anybody sits in the upper deck so there is no urgency.
That my point many regular fans donate but just cant at the level of the big whale donors, but that is a terrible way to treat your alumi and does come off being treated as peon for UH to not fix stadium amenity issues like restrooms and concessions based soley the fact we cant donate big money. Also really difficult for regular alumni and sports fans to have the money to donate because all the money they can spend goes to season tickets that prices are raised year after year.
There are many fans that sit in the upper deck home side especially between 30s. It is the corners have been saying for years UH needs to find a way to fill in. Yeah, South side has no restrooms or concessions either the hard part about that side is the shell space in not already there like it is on north side. All UH really need on third deck is restrooms and a concession stand that services sodas, beer, and beverages. I dont mind the food concession being down below but adding a beverage conccession alone on northside would bring ROI that is all Pez talks about.
They dont do that anymore either. Have that app have to order from and bring beverages to you. Miss beer pressure guy. “If your not boozn your loozn!” Funny part is Pez is quoted about wanting to connect the uppper concourses and mentioned fans drinking a beer. Well “genious” that might be easier for fans to do if they dont have hike down first level get a beer.
Until it hits the bank account, changes will not happen. Hopefully they will at least do something about upstairs concessions and bathrooms as those will start to sell out more, plus the visitor seating will sell out. Once those issues start to become harped upon by those outside a few UH fans up there, then they will have to address it or it will cause a bigger impact on overall ticket sales now in the Big 12.
The dollars (or loss of potential dollars) will hopefully cause change. Adding bathrooms in the last 5 years, likely would not have increased sales in the upper deck. Now, not adding them may cause a loss of sales if people hate the experience enough not to go (including visiting fans) A loss of 5000 potential fans per game adds up to a couple million per season.
