Texas Bowl

If Dana and Jimbo both stumble onto 6 wins

Any chance we could get that vs A$M?

Or is that an upper-tier Big 12 bowl?

I was about to say Texas Tech cause they’re ranked higher than us in conference play but looked like they played Texas Bowl last year so hoping we can get the slot, Texas Bowl would be a sellout if both UH and the Aggies

Gotta beat Cinci and UCF at least tho, knowing Dana, not sure haha

LFG! If this is the goal, Dana better sober up and get it done!

Local teams are anathema to bowl committees. No additional money coming into town that committee members can brag about. Better shot at playing in that western bowl.

I would attend that game. I doubt the Aggies would come, they are popular with bowls due to their travelling party. A bowl above Texas would grab them.

I can see them turning up their noses at a Texas Bowl vs UH already

After the CFP selection process the Citrus Bowl gets the first selection of available SEC Teams.

POOL OF SIX BOWLS: After the Citrus Bowl selects a team, there will be a pool of six bowls and the Conference, in consultation with the institutions and the bowls, will make the assignments for these six bowl games from all eligible SEC teams.

The pool of six bowls for 2022-23 are as follows:

Tax Act Texas Bowl (Houston, TX) vs. Big 12 Dec. 28, 9 p.m. ESPN
SRS Distributors Las Vegas Bowl (Las Vegas, NV) vs. Pac-12 Dec. 17, 7:30 p.m. ABC
Transperfect Music City Bowl (Nashville, TN) vs. Big Ten Dec. 31, Noon ABC
TaxSlayer Gator Bowl (Jacksonville, FL) vs. ACC Dec. 30, 3:30 p.m. ESPN
AutoZone Liberty Bowl (Memphis, TN) vs. Big 12 Dec. 28, 5:30 p.m. ESPN
ReliaQuest Bowl (Tampa,FL) vs. Big 10/ACC Jan. 2, Noon ESPN2

TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl (Birmingham, AL) vs. American December 27, TBD ESPN
Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl (Tampa, FL) vs. American December 23, 6:30 p.m. ESPN

ESPN Events selects teams to participate in the Birmingham and Gasparilla Bowls after the Citrus Bowl and Pool of Six

New Year’s Contract Bowls
Allstate Sugar - (Big 12 vs. SEC when Sugar is not a semifinal game)
Rose - (Pac 12 vs. Big Ten when Rose is not a semifinal game)
Capital One Orange - (ACC vs. highest ranked SEC/Big Ten non-champion or Notre Dame when Orange is not a semifinal game)

Other New Year’s Bowls
Goodyear Cotton
Vrbo Fiesta
Chick-fil-A Peach

Big 12 CFP Contract Bowl Qualifier
The Big 12 champion will earn the Conference’s automatic berth for its CFP contract bowl slot.

Additional Big 12 Teams in the CFP
If a Big 12 team(s) is rated in the top four of the CFP, it will play in one of the semifinals. This does not affect the Big 12 designee being placed in a CFP New Year’s Bowl if it is not one of the top four teams. There is not a limit on the number of teams from one conference that can be placed in CFP bowls. Additional Big 12 teams may be selected for other CFP New Year’s bowls based on their ranking in the final CFP Poll.

Big 12 Bowl Partners
Once the CFP has filled its bowl slots, Big 12 bowl partners will make selections from the remaining Conference teams. Following is the order of selection. A bowl may pick from any available teams with .500 or better records when it reaches its spot in the selection order. After the placement of those teams, slots will be filled from among the pool of remaining teams.
Allstate Sugar/ CFP At-Large
Valero Alamo
TaxAct Texas
AutoZone Liberty
Guaranteed Rate
Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl*/SERVPRO First Responder Bowl*
Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl

** Game is a “flex pick” for seventh selection after CFP.*

Since we don’t travel, we won’t be a popular pick.

Does this mean you guys have given up on a New Years Six bowl?

With our luck if we get to 6 we will end up in Fort Worth unless TCU has finals that week.

Now we are contemplating Aggie vs UH in the Texas Bowl? Funny, funny.

Pop-tart bowl v Notre Dame.

Last time we went to Fort Worth for a bowl game we played Army. It was bad. Real Bad

And Applewhite got canned

That might be fun, assuming the fan enthusiasm for both teams is enough to fill the seats.

That ship has sailed.

LOOK OUT! You could make the ‘sunshine pumpers’ mad!

As inconsistent as this team is I am not sold on winning 2 of the last 3 games. We should beat Cincy, but we should have beaten Rice too. OKST? Not a chance as the pokes will likely be playing for a spot in the Big 12 championship. UCF on the road the day after Thanksgiving could be interesting if we need another win to make a bowl. Or we may fold in a haze of turkey induced brain-fog mixed with Red Bull and whatever accompanies it. All that said, there is zero chance A&M would agree to play us.

Being in the “mighty SEC”, backing out of a Bowl game with UH if it happens is not a good look. If Jimbo is #1 on the hot seat, you would think he would want another win to help his cause.
