I’d be surprised if Gibbs doesn’t talk with Wells first before making any decisions. Matt’s offense is more “defense friendly.”

Well that is the end for Gibbs at Tech.
Which is why Gibbs was at UH interviewing yesterday… but I hope we do better.

I’m torn. I loved causing fumbles and turnovers. But I’m skeptical of someone giving up that many points.
I’m a Gibbs fan at UH based on his history here. Not a fan of him having to recreate a defense opposite Briles though.
I’m cautiously optimistic on Gibbs but I won’t throw furniture if we get a fire-breathing DC elsewhere.

Not sure he’ll work out there…really surprised they didn’t pursue Seth Litrell who’s done a magnificent job at UNT. Could’ve maybe been similar to their Chris Beard hire in basketball. But the need to get away from the air raid and any tech ties took over I guess.

What makes Gibbs a good pick is his emphasis on turnovers. Give our offense more chances and the likelihood is we will get further ahead giving the defense more opportunities to gamble on more TO. The two should feed off of each other in the right circumstances. Truthfully this is much better on our level than in the Big12-2 or other P 5 conferences.

Litrell would make sense. He has already shown the ability to recruit well in the area. Maybe they talked to Seth and he passed.

The OC has coaches with Gary Pinkel and Mike Leach, so I don’t see the offensive approach changing radically. Kilff wasn’t running the “Air Raid”, anyway.

Hocutt, their AD, wants to get away from the air raid and basically decided he wouldn’t consider anybody that ran it.
Man, this hire is going to blow up in Tech’s face. Wells had 3 losing seasons before this one, his 4th-6th years at Utah State. He did go 10-2 this year, but went 1-2 against teams with winning records…basically beat up on a lot of bad teams to get there.
Just an odd hire.
