The short answer is that I wish they’d designated three instead of one.
Which they still may do in which case I’m fine with this.

The reality is both are new Big 12 members, we are the closest rival to UCF, and both programs have to prove themselves.
We want the top dog status- we need to build a program that adds significant value to a conference.
We have work to do, and we can, but crying about UCF makes me think we have a spoiled fan based that doesn’t live in reality.
WE will still play TT, TCU & Baylor almost every year.
Who Cares about UCF? Play ball!
We will have enough tough other games in bb so it’s ok
I would love one game against UT… But I’d rather make the expanded CFP than get one game against them…
That’s all I care about… Winning.
I don’t think that will occur, for a while, after 2023. I can also see UT avoiding the scheduling.
If we are going to play Texas, Dana better be ready to win.
Catch them in the CFP… That should be the goal.
It’s not UT’s call. Conference has no incentive to make them happy.
But we may miss out because other teams higher in the pecking order may also want to play them.
Will there be a Big 12 championship game the 2 years we are expected to be in conference with them?
I know, i know… We have to play better to make any conference championship game…
It makes sense from the “battle for the ‘space city’ title”. TV needs a narrative.
Plus cheap 3 hour flights, lots of hotels, theme parks… Orlando is a great destination.
I get it though, I have a hard time feeling “rivalrous” against UCF, but I think I’ll get over it
Personally, I’m envious. They have such a huge amount of support from the City. It’s the biggest campus in the USA, so even if they only get 25% student support: that’s HUGE. The administration has upped the ante into creating a strong and organized community operation for what is effectively a commuter campus. Their research is decently high. It’s like all the parts that UH has had, at different times, but mixed together well.
Roadie to Orlando! Nice.
Yes Kyle - UH has a relatively weak, aging and somewhat whiny fan base - many of whom seem to expect us to be served Filet Mignon at a James Coney Island price. I’m in my early 70’s so I’ve lived it quite awhile and I think I can talk about it.
As a football program, we have a long way to go and UCF is ahead of us at this point in time.
Depends on the time frame. Before Texas and OU left, even i believed that it would have been stupid to add another school in Texas, but after Texas and OU left Houston became prime real estate.

I like the “space trophy” idea. May i suggest a model for the trophy?..
In terms of program quality, drawing UCF is actually a good card. In many ways better than the Texas schools! Hitching our program to theirs has some reputational advantages. But otherwise it’s largely an indifferent relationship and while playing annually may help I don’t see that changing any time soon.
I think there is an unstated cap of four schools from any given state to any conference above the MAC. Conference USA, the AAC, and Big 12 never went above 4 in Texas. The Pac-12 never went above 4 in California.
I thought our chances for the Big 12 were lights-out when TCU got their invite.
I think the main thing here is to schedule the games for November, play up the space stuff (they do a space night every season maybe we can syncronize something. Then wait and see if anything develops.
But I think this sort of thing is something they ought to be doing with multiple pairings to see what takes. You can only schedule so many games in November, but there are other things to throw out there.
The AAC was not very good about this sort of thing. I’m hoping the Big 12 does better though the above actually doesn’t give me that much confidence. Even setting aside UH there are a bunch of matchups that should be given priority (BYU-Baylor, KSU-ISU, OkSt-TT) rather than “one rivalry and rotate everyone else”. KSU-ISU in particular gives me hope they won’t stick with one rivalry. I can’t imagine a show man like Yormark can’t appreciate Farmageddon. If we have three permanent rivals, we still play everybody else three seasons out of every four.
So I’m hoping there’s no trophy or anything initially but maybe after a while it’ll work itself out.
Assigned rival? What the hell is that?? It sure isnt UCF…Our rivals are Tech, Baylor, Okie State and TCU…there is NOTHING that makes UCF a rival, except they have no one to be a rival WITH in new Big 12. They are NOT a rival…
…and that we’ve been in 3 straight conferences with them.
