The Big 12 is going to make UCF our primary rival

On paper, those all would be very tough schedules, considering Boise State and Colorado in non conference games.

Tulane, Temple, and ECU aren’t walking through that door (looks nervously at KU)

If Kansas goes, my current thinking is that Boise is in. I think they like the time zone thing, which helps get them past Memphis.

They all look good to me!

Any of those options have me excited for the new B12! Also, falling back on my Coog anxiety, it’s going to be way tougher than anything we’ve seen since the AAC as a football conference peaked (imo) 2014-2017ish

Let’s go!!!

No to any FCS team ever. Our OOC games should be 2 P5 and one G5. I would like to get Arkansas, Ole Miss, LSU, OU, Bama, etc. on future schedules as one of the P5 teams in any given year.

As a new P5 member of the Big 12, we should be able to get home and home NC games now that we havent been ablle to do in a long time
I would love me some Arkie or LSU Tiger!

The B12 can schedule us to play UCF 8 times a year. That doesn’t make them a rival. We don’t give a %# about one another. I’m perfectly fine with UCF being you guys’ rival. They won’t be mine. My rival will be Tech and Baylor and TCU. The teams we’ll recruit against and trade insults with in gas stations and movie theaters. And since most of our kids will know the players on those teams I’ll bet they will consider them rivals too.

I am more interested in the OOC schedules than whether UH is matched with UCF instead of some other school for one game. (UCF is a good match though compared to most options). There are the Big 12 - BE and Big 12 - SEC matchups for basketball. I would like to see an annual one with another major conference for football.

True that, no more the days of Lamar’s (hopefully). Teams will start calling us!

Baylor hosts Albany and Texas state this year

Locked on Big 12 also splits us from the Texas schools and put us with the eastern school pod. (18 min)

(ETA: I should have kept listening before posting in exasperation. They sort of back off a bit for fear of a kiddie table pod. Which is good! But their subsequent plans are bad. All of which are the subject of their insistence on three pods of four instead of four pods of three.)

And I will add Tulane and Tulsa to that list.

We will probably not have seen the last of Tulsa or Tulane after this coming year. (Doubt we’ll play Temple or ECU again, though.)

The occasional non conference fodder is okay but not on our schedule every season.

Yeah, I think it’ll look like current matchups against Texas State or maybe North Texas in terms of frequency.

The problem with putting us in with the eastern schools is that it puts all of the prime recruiting areas in the east an none in the west. My proposal is 4 pods of three.
Pod A UH, Baylor, and TCU
Bod B TT, BYU, and OSU
Pod C KU, KSU, and Iowa St.
Pod D UCF, WVa, and Cincy.

Pods A and B are permanent opponents and C and D are permanent opponents. Pods A and B will play C and D on rotating 2 year cycles. Every team in the B12 will play each other at least 2 times every 4 years. This gives A and B an anchor in the Houston recruiting area and C and D in the Ohio/Penn and Fla recruiting areas.

At that point they’re more scheduling divisions than pods. Which I am fine with but I know some people are trying to avoid. (Also the “Texas Division” issue, if the other schools object to that).

I tend to put BYU with TCU and Baylor in a pod, bit with your plan who is in which of the AB pods and CD pods doesn’t matter much. Except you may want to split UH and TCU apart so that CD teams are guaranteed either the Houston or DFW team. Likewise maybe split UCF and Cincy?

Isn’t that the exact same thing as two divisions of 6?

I think we will be stuck with everyone that has a sports blog or site posting some sort of breakdown for the Big 12. Some will be realistic, some just strange and some will end up getting it right out of pure luck.

Offseason - what else to discuss

That said the 3 pods of 4 seems stupid to me since the idea of a pod is to clearly show who will match up which year, and I really doubt there will only be 7 conference games
