The CBS Sports Analysis is Correct

On YouTube watch some CBS guys discuss our Cougars.

They correctly observed that we have no Inside Game nor apparent Offensive Plan.

Said all we do is shoot jump shots.

Also said we might not be built to hold leads. Today,in second half, we lead by 2. Rest of game Az outscored us by 9.

These observations ring true and clearly point out that we are not a Final Four Team.
We will have a really good season, probably going 26-5.

We have no offensive game plan. We dribble around the 3 point line until there’s 5 seconds left and force a shot. There has been times we run an inside/out offense and it has worked effectively. No idea why we have not run that more.

We had one game where we were running some plays for Cenac coming across at the free-throw line, but I haven’t seen that since, either.

The High-Low post can be effective.

All those great UCLA teams ran it. Guy Lewis ran it.

We do not. Cenac can hit from the FT Line area. Tugler can dunk it,and get put backs.

Instead Uzan dribbles endlessly, then we jack up a 3.

Just no coherent Offense

The lack of purpose on offense is even worse when the bench guys come in. It’s one level above intramural ball.

We are not built to close out.

Vs Iowa St and Arizona we virtually cannot score in the final 7 minutes of the game.

Why? Because all we do is dribble for 25 seconds, then jack up a 3.

We scored 67 vs Iowa St and now 66 vs Az.

The Sampson defense no longer holds opponents below 64.

No Offensive Game.

Been saying for years we need a true big man well one is coming next year

I don’t know why we don’t screen away from the ball. We only pick at the top of the key. Teams have figured that out. They keep the double team in place, there is no roll, at the top of the arc.

Maybe Arfan can be the 2nd coming of dream, but I would really temper expectations

Maybe because this year we have no inside scoring threat so other teams do not get too concerned when we throw it inside…

We’ll be ok if Jojo can play a full game and he and Sahko combine for 12-14 points. That’s enough with Snacks giving us the same by himself.

Snacks with a double-double and 13 boards today. That kid is pure unadulterated talent. If we make the Elite Eight this year I’ll still be happy and very proud. Something more that that will be Sampson’s March genius.

We are 23-4. We’ve lost 4 games to teams currently in KP’s top 16. Worst loss was today and it was by 7 cuz we fouled with a second left.

Did I think we played poorly? Yeah. Was losing my mind during the game.

But get a grip. We are a really good team and the run we are on is amazing. The entitlement of some on this board is off the charts.

I was born into a Coog family. I’m appreciative of every moment of these last few seasons because I’ve seen the worst. Trust, this isn’t it.

I was very impressed at how Arizona players were so calm under pressure. There may something to recruiting these big Euro players, many of them older and much more experienced than most American players…and yes, probably much better coached than our AAU teams…
But I think the obvious facts that haunt our Cougars is no inside bigs, shooting too many treys and getting caught too young…

If there was a player that could exploit the weakness of the other team, it would be Cenac. His size and ability to score from 3 to score from the inside could give other teams problem and could give the Coogs an added inside out play. Jacking threes isn’t going to work every night.

There’s a reason Lebron and Kobe developed an inside game and used it from Hakeems lessons.

Our offense doesn’t look good when Tugler is in foul trouble and we have to use Sakho for 30m.

Sampson just needs to stick with Flemings and move Usan to the 2. Flemings has the skills but he’s still a freshman and his decision making is still a work in progress. We’re still a great team but we need our freshman to become stars and close.

I know this staff knows how to draw up plays. I know that CKS is among the best in his profession. But this is spot on.

There’s no semblance of a cohesive philosophy on that side of the floor. It’s been a glaring weakness for several years now.

They are supposed to be “lottery” picks and they are getting paid so they should carry us to the final 4.

In his Press Conference yesterday Sampson acknowledged that “we are a jump shooting team”.

Yesterday our 4 Big Men,combined, scored 19 points.

We replaced Roberts/Francis/Tugler with Cenac/Sakho/Tugler and suffered a decline in the Paint.

And,in essence, we replaced Cryer with Uzan as Flemings runs point.

However, Uzan still behaves as if he is running the point. He dribbles around a lot.

So we really have only Sharp shooting 3’s instead of Sharp/Cryer.
