We are seeing some of the best Coog rosters since the GVL days. And they’re only getting better.

Many factors (no particular order):

*Facilities upgrades

*Transfer portal- immediate eligibility for 1 time transfers

*The Quentin Grimes effect(developed into a 1st rounder at this program)

*Joining the Big 12, bigger national platform

*NCAA tournament success

Thoughts on any particular yr?

Getting Dotson & Gray in year 2 of the program. Big gets that early in his tenure

If Stiggers doesn’t leave, we never land Rob Gray

If Armoni Brooks doesn’t leave, we never land Quentin Grimes. Isnt that right?

Wish we could have seen the 6’ 18" version of Kiyron Powell.

Even a legit 6’10 version would have been great.

1 Factor is CULTURE!

Yes, culture is a big one. Guys buy in.

Our best players aren’t transferring to bigger programs for NIL or more TV exposure

I was wondering something recently while reading the bickering over Mills: if you had to pick 5 starters and 3 bench guys only from the Sampson era, who would you take based on their best season here (ie they have to have played a game at UH)?

Without giving it too much thought, I would go:

Shead
Sasser
Grimes
Fabian
Gorham

Carlton
Gray

But then I have a hard time deciding among these for the final spot:

Brooks
Hinton
Dotson
C Davis
Mills

And I may not be remembering the best of Stiggers, Barnes, etc. Not trying to start any arguments - there are no wrong answers.

I also wondered if there were any players between the Foster and Sampson eras that I would take over any player on the current team but I will table that one for now.

Starters:

Rob Gray (the one that got us started)
Grimes (Uber talented shooter/defender)
Dotson (best 3pt shooter- 44.5%)
White (king of the mid range & big ‘W’s’)
Carlton (only real center we ever had)

Bench:

Brooks (best guard rebounder, snipa from 3)
Devin Davis (determined baller, good mid range)
Sasser (great defense and 3 PT shooting)

I like it. I went with Gorham for defense and rebounding. I have a hard time leaving Shead out because of his PG play, defense, and ability to drive. D Davis was automatic from the baseline jumper.

This year might add to the difficulty in picking the Sampson Era Dream Team.

Deeky
Sasser
Grimes
Pollard
Carlton

GRob
Brooks
White

I struggled with leaving Jarreau off the list but the guard position is VERY deep in the current era. Pollard is a nice pick as well - solid player.

I’m putting LeRon Barnes on my team and none of you can stop me. Love that guy

This covers a lot of players.
To compete with our current era all-stars they would need to have strong offence and defense as well as size.

Maybe Oliver Lafayette if he is not too small for SG.
Maybe Louis Truscott
Alton Ford was becoming a force at the end of his one year.
T Thomas?
Danuel House by the time he left aggy but not while here.

The answer to your question is Aubrey Coleman!

If we’re talking best season, give me:

  1. Rob Gray
  2. Corey Davis
  3. Quentin Grimes
  4. Fabian White
  5. Josh Carlton

Bench
Marcus Sasser
Nate Hinton
Devonta Pollard

CD was one of my favorite players but thinking I may have Dotson there. However, I have Sasser over both of them.
Also predicting Shead will take over for Gray after another season.

All these guys are studs. We’ve been so stacked at the guard under Sampson. Its really difficult to make these lists.
