We already know its one of the K or W quarterbacks but for the sake of the Old Coogs who require someone from 50 years ago (Yes the 1970s were 50 years ago, get over it, please don’t pull out the 8 track players) to be in every poll, I added Moon Mullins and Danny Davis

Danny Davis

I thought we already did this one, but with that being said… I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t choose Andre Ware.

He’s the first player to ever win the Heisman, and he did so playing in the toughest conference we’ve ever been in.

Regarding Case Keenum, 100% one of the greatest QB’s not just for Houston, but ever. However, what always makes this difficult are the players that play only 3 years and get drafted.

It’s like basketball, a player that has 4 years to rack up a bunch of records is different than a 1 and done who gets drafted after a freshman year.

No, was saving this one for last. Andre is a great argument but Case broke all of his records and has had a better NFL career.

Case brought us back from the dead

I don’t disagree, but Andre Ware was a Coog from 87-89.

Keenum was a Coog from 2006-2011.

Case was the undisputed leader of the team for 6 years (ok maybe 5.5). That kind of impact should be factored in and my mind would make him the greatest (not necessarily the best though).

we are talking about a heisman… love me some case, but a heisman is a heisman

I don’t think there is a large disparity between Andre Ware and Case Keenum.

I just think Andre Ware gets the tip just because he won the Heisman in the SWC. Not taking anything away from Case at all.

It’s all opinion, and it’s my bad for suggesting that someone should be the undisputed choice. I take that back

Honestly though, I don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer here. Both are great.

Not saying these are the greatest but they deserve some mention based on their UH performance.

  1. Danny Davis - Came out of nowhere in UH’s first season in the SWC to lead UH to victories over UT and TAMU and co-conference champions and Cotton Bowl victory.

  2. Terry Elston - Was a backup but came off the bench to lead UH to 2 of their most famous victories: 1) at TAMU in College Station, and 2) in Cotton Bowl against Nebraska.

  3. David Klingler - Overshadowed by Andre Ware, but Klingler was a NCAA stat machine, even though defenses were catching up to defending the Run and Shoot. I will never forget the pounding he took in College Station when TAMU blitzed every play and Klingler keep pulling himself off the ground. True grit and leadership. Eleven TDs against Eastern Washington I think is still a NCAA record.

Very tempted to put Davis first. He was largely responsible for a #4 and #10 ranking and two SWC championships when the SWC was arguably the best league in college football.

I’m going to vote for DC Nobels. He is the man who broke the color barrier for quarterback at a major school in the south.

I wouldn’t have greg ward #1 but i think he should be in the conversation more than he is given credit for…

he took a horrendous levine team, and instantly made them extremely good when he became qb, levine biggest downfall was not playing him sooner

he gave us one of our most dominat seasons ever and it had to be him at QB, we played one game without him against one of the worst teams in the nation and lost… and we instantly went back to being terrible when he graduated … a large part of that story is that we had really bad Oline during his years, and he was still good without it, while almsot everyone else would have struggled …weve had other top 10 teams, but for all of those if you replaced the qb i dont think the falloff would have been as big for the next qb

I will take Greg Ward Jr. He was the greatest running QB in our history, an underrated passer and a winner. He won 22 games his last 2 years. He beat Oklahoma, and top 10 Louisville and Florida State in a NY6 Bowl game. He was QB of the greatest comeback win in bowl history against Pitt…

I know what you are trying to say here, but Levine recruited what was arguably one of the best rosters in UH history…

Greg Ward (NFL)
Kenneth Farrow (NFL)
Matt Adams (NFL)
Tyus Bowser (NFL)
Garrett Davis
Khalil Williams
William Jackson III (NFL)
Howard Wilson (NFL)
Emege Egbule (NFL)
Demarcus Ayers (NFL)
D’Juan Hines (NFL)
Isiah Johnson (NFL)
Linell Bonner
Steven Dunbar JR
Chance Allen
Brandon Willson (NFL)
Steven Taylor
Elandon Roberts (NFL)

What a roster that was… for a G5 team.

mostly on defense, but the oline wasnt good, and every active WR ran a sub 4.7 bonner/dunbar were WR1/2 (& ayers his junior year)… that why shifty ward was the only one who could make it work…

That was Kevin Kolb

Dunbar played for the 49ers for a bit and Chance Allen had a stint with the Eagles.
