Amare seemed excited about being a deep threat.

I agree with you (that seeing it come to fruition, on the field) is the best evidence…
With that said, I tend to trust Conner’s opinion. about where the team is at, more than anyone on this message board.
…so it’s noteworthy he went out of his way to use the word “gel”, when asked about how the new guys are fitting in, and make it clear that they are coming together quickly.
This is his 4th season of college football, so he’s probably seen it, up close and personal, when things aren’t “gelling”…
I also agree with Ryan’s take…
…and I’ll take some literary license and paraphrase…
…that the first time the line gets a false start penalty, or a holding call, the “chicken littles” in the game day threads will suffer aneurysms…

As for the o-line…
I want to be VERY clear…
Though the 2025 o-line was better than 2024, they did need time to pull it together. They finished the season kinda “mid-tier”, as far as the conference goes.
What I’m saying is…
The 2026 o-line has both a Higher FLOOR, and a Higher CEILING, due to Talent Level.
IMO, they will start the season BETTER than the 2025 group (ergo the higher floor), they will come together / “gel” (like every other o-line in the conference), and they will end the season as one of the top Offensive Lines in the Big12 (reach their ceiling)…

I think the point of concern is that there are 3 new starters. Some teams have more new linemen, some have less. Do 3 new guys take more time to gel than 2, or 1?
Perhaps, with all things being equal, however, all things AREN’T equal.
…another point I’ve made is that these new Coog Linemen come with a lot of games (snaps) under their belt, which, I believe will accelerate their transition more than a guy who’s been “in the system”, but sat on the sidelines. Some disagree…
To me, replacing 1-3 is kinda the norm. I’m willing to bet the average is close to 2 per year.
4 would start to concern me. 5 would be a “major concern”.

Some people live for posting stupid takes.
Losing to Southern is just as likely as UH losing to N.C. State. WE were supposed to show up and wipe them out. That loss still hurts. I NEVER underestimate anybody- EVER.

It’s not underestimating them, it’s properly estimating them. We’re more likely to win the National Championship than we are to lose to Southern, and it would take a miracle for us to win the National Championship.
NC State was about 100x more likely to win the National Championship at the start of the '83 Tournament than UH is to win the National Championship in Football this year, for comparison. They were a substantial underdog, but UCLA was a larger favorite in '68 than UH was in '83. It wasn’t inconceivable, and wasn’t even the biggest upset in National Championship Game history up to that point.
If Southern beat UH, it would be the single biggest upset in College Football history.

Maybe…Maybe not… I expect KState, Utah, and Okie Dokey to have something to say about that.
Appalachian State’s win vs. Michigan is still talked about 19 years later, or Boise St vs. Oklahoma. Don’t think a Southern win over UH would be remembered near that long, except by long-suffering UH fans. Let’s not put it to the test and find out though.

Side note… Boone, NC is a cool a$$ town… I would not have been mad to spend 4, or 5, years there in my 20s.
