If we dominate this season and get a NY6… add that with the massive amount of media coverage that Ed Oliver is going to get. Let’s also not forget that we have some other big defense players that are going to take advantage of all that coverage for their shot at the NFL as well. We got a new offense in place with a QB that we finally have confidence in.
I probably sound over-confident, but I am really hoping for another 2015 this season.
Let’s get an NY6, and enter into the 2019 season ranked against OU.
anything short of a new years six bowl is a disappointment. applewhite needs to go if we dont make it. he would basically be wasting 2 of oliver’s 3 seasons here. times have changed at UH now.
We should AT LEAST make the championship game. When you are in a division with 3 small privates, a military branch and Memphis, winning your division should be the floor of our season.
Really no excuses imo. But we are talking about Applewhite.
I don’t feel so confident. Sure hope I’m wrong but last season was so “blah” — we’re gonna need another 12 win season to get the taste out. Hmmm… we’ve become spoiled. lol
We always seem to have our best years when we seem pretty good but generally overlooked. Right now we seem pretty good and we aren’t exactly gathering much preseason attention (other than Ed).
Last year was so blah because our offense was a giant dud. Except for arguably the Memphis game, the games where the defense struggled, it was because our offense couldn’t stay on the field. Briles and Clements have had incredibly good offenses everywhere they’ve gone. If that one change had been there last year, I firmly believe our 7-5 season would have been 11-1. I left Memphis as a loss because 38 points should win games, but the defense collapsed in the 2nd half.
There’s no reason our offense shouldn’t be way more explosive this year than last year. I stop a little short of saying failure to make a NY6 means the season is a bust, but we should definitely be in the AAC championship game this year.
And I 100% agree this is the perfect year to get back in the national spotlight. Our OOC schedule features 2 very winnable P5 matchups. At Navy and at Memphis will be tough, but hopefully both of those teams (especially Memphis) will be ranked when we play them. If we can pull off a year like 2015, 2019 sets up perfectly to bust into the CFB playoff with OOC matchups against OU and Washington State. I know I’m possibly setting myself up for disappointment, but it’s hard to not get excited about the near future of this team.
The defense “collapse” in the second half because we changed the scheme at halftime… I remind you that those 2 coaches are back (ie., Donofrio and CMA ) !!
The offense was mauling Memphis for most of the game until late, when we resorted to the ever favorite dive plays.
Major’s first year as a head coach. Big Herm took our best recruits, and Major had to cobble together a recruiting class and coaching staff. Then we endured the largest natural disaster in Texas/Houston history.
We find out what Major is made of this year. We are in a much better spot this year than last. Two huge games occur very early- Arizona at home and Tech on the road.
