His defense is better but still lacking
If he comes off the bench and scores a few points in a close game at Tech I will be thrilled. But most of his points have been mop up points against bad teams.
Donāt get me wrong, I am rooting for him to turn the corner on both sides of the ball. But right now in no way do I see him a starter next yearā¦hope I am wrongā¦
this is kinda goes wit my take on mercy⦠i think mercys defense is good enough if had to play himā¦
its not that his defense is lacking, but that the players he is competing with are far better ā¦
we can go on 15-0 / 18-3 type runs with harwell and and chase on the floor ⦠thats not the case with mercy⦠clearly a drop on defense compared to the other 2⦠but i dont want to use the word lacking becuase mercy defense is probably at a level similar to younger sharp, armoni, ramon, cryer year1 ⦠who all got minutes and we still held our own ā¦
like i noted earlier⦠if (knock on wood) we lost 2 guards to injury and we had to play mercy, i think weād be fine⦠he would be another taze in impact (not saying they play the same)⦠but theres just no incentive to play him without the injury⦠our offense without mercy is one of the best in the sampson era, so why sacrifice defense to put more offense.
defense is the surface level story⦠but the real story here is that we have depth
yeah to me the issue isnt even that he played pro basketball⦠its that he played college 3 years agoā¦
start college, take 3 years to develop oversees/gleague, then come back to college would fundamentally change the game of college sports
And wait until BYU says hold my beer, or something like that. They may be playing 30 year olds.

I wouldnāt mind seeing either of these guys in a UH jersey next season
Punch probably depends on Tugler status
Punch looks like a stud. Honestly, we need a reliable low post player to pair with Arafan Diane next year, regardless of what Jojo decides to do. I would love to see him return but this is the second game in a row where he was a complete non-factor due to foul trouble. 10 minutes total with NO rebounds, not one! Thatās crazy.
Itās simple. We need 3 monster bigs. 2 that start, and 1 that rotates in and basically plays starter minutes. We canāt play the way we want to play asking certain bigs not to protect the rim/defensive glass.
We had this solution last year with Francis coming in and doing work. Unfortunately we got cute and brought in a back up big from Sam Houston that isnāt currently playing like he is going to help us win a championship.
Next year down low we need Tugler, the 5 star Freshman big we are bringing in, and an impact transfer big along with McFarland and the others that we are trying to develop. If you want to win championships, you need a championship roster
Dream scenerio
Diane/Transfer big/Lath
Tugler/McCarty/McFarland pray he contributes
Harwell/Jackson
Holt/Miller/Bring another transfer guard that can shoot
Transfer pg/Alozie/Jefferson
1 ship still available.
If coach wants to bring Diane off the bench to help spread the floor with Tugler starting, iām okay with that. Let Diane punish backups.
having 3 years if eligibility here is a plus but at this point iād rather go all out on poaching punch lol
Most definitely
Punch knows exactly where he needs to be next year to win championships and put himself in the right spot
We need to trade Ced lath for someone who can actually come in and play solid minutes.
Yeah I think Lath experiment should be over
If he wants to play he needs to think about Lamar, Louisiana etc.
My sense is Coach Sampson likes Lath as a teammate and Lath likes being at UH. He knows he is an end-of-the-bench player, and not much is expected from him from the coaching staff. Lath buys in to the culture, knows his role, and is ready to contribute to the best of his ability. If your expectation for Lath is to be able to rest your starters during the game, you are not viewing Lath the same way as the coaching staff.
JLCoog - I agree and I think this is another example of why CKS mentions that heās the ācoachā and he doesnāt listen to āfansā who donāt understand the team concept and therefore often have uninformed or ignorant takes.
