How does JUCO fit into the equation? Obviously, JUCO can’t go to a portal except for limited sophomore guys. Do JUCOs not want to develop freshmen either due to the risk of them leaving for D-1?
And some who can would rather stay close to home to work or take care of family stuff. They might not even care what TW wants them to do.
It’s not that it’s run horribly….its competent….but the competitiveness of the league is lacking….
Its got more of a “where having fun and screwing around in a park” thing rather than….i know there are scouts here and I’m trying to impress….trying to earn an invite back the following year if needed.
I could share more but that’s enough to get the drift I believe.
BTW, Coastal Plains is an excellent league for guys that can not get invites to the Cape or NW.
Not that this site is necessarily the authority on the subject but it addresses the topic…
Top 10 Collegiate Summer Baseball Leagues (as of 2023)
“The Texas Collegiate League is often touted as one of the premier summer collegiate leagues in the country according to reviews by Baseball America, Perfect Game, and Major League Baseball personnel.” LINK
The TCL has never been called the HCL (or Karl Young League). The Coastal Baseball Summer League looks like the present day Houston area summer college league: Website
I believe the Texas Collegiste League is the one in Dallas. It is a much better league. The players take it more seriously and it is coached to a higher level. With that said, Solis and Roman should be in the California League or the Northwoods League. I believe that TW does not want some of his players to play in better leagues because he doesn’t want them to get too much exposure.
JUCOS can not enter the NCAA portal. They play, for the most part, whatever kids they need to play in order to win, whether they are a FR or SO.
With that said, a lot of D1 coaches will take a JC transfer over a FR with great upside because they have some experience.
Go look at all the stats and tell me where FR pitchers are making a legitimate impact in power five baseball?
I just looked at the Top 200 ERA’s in college baseball and FR made up 5% of the list.
Coaches are going to play players who have experience over those that don’t. That is why the portal is so popular.
Where’s all the UH returning players and summer players and incoming ? Summer leagues ? Good and bad ? How are the players feeling about AD change ? Does that equal coaching change ? Who’s staying who’s going ?
Also the mlb draft league . Seen a couple of players UH ties. Pitchers can’t remember his name . And infielder /hitter Climie who plays with former UH kid, Benjamin.
