TT QB Brendan Sorsby Gambling Issues

The article and ruling are from 2023 if I remember correctly. So, think he and tt are cooked.

Has zero to do with the NCAA. There are no teeth nor money for any board or body to rule the schools effectively. NCAA tries to enforce the rules, a big school like Michigan or Austin decides they don’t like that rule and sues. Who has deeper pockets? Hint: It is not the NCAA and it isn’t any other formation of a board or body.

Speaking as a person who has lived in a gambling state for a while this kid is in serious trouble as A PERSON. Gambling addiction is by far and away the most corrosive, destructive, and dangerous of all the addictions. The simple fact is gambling doesn’t kill you as fast and gives you incentives for perpetuating the behavior. You win some you lose some but the expectation is the ‘rush’ from the game itself. I have seen people gamble away their houses, savings, and eventually their lives.
I will pray for this kid and his recovery.
BTW; If Tech was smart there is no way in hell Tech didn’t know about this kid and his problems. They brought the kid on- its on THEM.

I kind of doubt they knew - not sure how you even go about finding that stuff out during the transfer process. It’s not like a gambling habit is going to show up on a credit report or criminal background check, even if they did those.

I do think they’ve known about it for a while, and that this rehab thing was planned to start right after spring practice.

In fact, they may have known about it long enough that their angst over playing us on a Friday after a road trip was at least partially due to their concern over their QB situation early in the season.

Due diligence is the key. As a rule, successful (?) gamblers are exceptionally smart, resilient, and excellent liars.

Right, but I’m not sure what level of due diligence would have revealed this or if that was even practical. I guess they could have requested all of his bank account, credit card and tax information? I don’t imagine any program has been doing that.

Having an addictive, pre deposition personality trait is a real thing. For those with that genetic trait, the internet is the highway to hell. Way too easy to fall off the track without support.

The ncaa never tried to enforce the rules. If they did all of the blue bloods would have gotten the death penalty or close to it like we did. The difference is that they did not.

Guys, get ready to hear plenty more stories like this. And if you’re my age, watch out for your teenage/young adult sons and their peers. This epidemic is just cranking up.

Young male brain + smartphone + legalized, heavily advertised sports betting = tons of ruined lives.

I thought this was an interesting tidbit from the article:

The Big 12, which includes Cincinnati, uses ProhiBet, a compliance driven app every student-athlete in the conference must download on their phone. The app notifies universities when athletes attempt to sign up for betting platforms or place prohibited wagers.

Guys can obviously figure out a workaround, but this at least takes away one of the easiest avenues.

I read some of the Tech message board, and man are they pissed. They’re also crazy AF. One guy said the Big 12 is out to get them to bring them “back to the pack.”

Bro, you had ONE good season. You finally won a major conference title – something Tech had never done. And you didn’t even score a point in the CFP. You’re not ahead of anybody. It took UT, A&M and OU leaving the Big 12 for Tech to finally be relevant – for one year. UH is coming for you and you know it.

I always thought Sorsby had douche-tendencies. There were signs. I’m glad we have CW and Kei. Character matters.
