TT QB Brendan Sorsby Gambling Issues

For a $5,000,000.00 quarterback Tech knew or should have known about this. It is called “due diligence”.

Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec needs to sit down with AD Kirby Hocutt and ask the question “How did Texas Tech not identify the gambling issue before Sorsby committed to Texas Tech?” Besides the stained reputation Texas Tech University incurs, the QB position this season becomes a major question mark, if for no other reason because of depth. Then there is the reported $4m-$5M NIL deal that Sorsby signed with Texas Tech. Did the NIL donor know about Sorsby’s gambling issues? Is that NIL deal still in place?

Yes, they are guilty of not applying due diligence. Where are the damages?

How many times in your lifetime have you witnessed someone hired based on a phony resume?

Obviously, this will lead to more scrutiny of prospective players. Not sure how a school can find a gambling account when the player uses a burner and fake names. Since many betting sites are international, it may take an act of Congress to provide scrutiny on gambling.

Exactly. This same thing could happen to us or any other school, regardless of how much “due diligence” was done during the transfer process.

Here’s the other question though.

Did the NIL donor have something in the contract to the effect of “this contract is null and void if the player either is expelled, voluntarily disenrolls, or is declared ineligible to play?”

If not, then the donor’s lawyer didn’t do “due dilligence.”

Totally agreed. I was at a men’s retreat last month with a panel of pastors and they said that where 10 years ago it was internet p*rn breaking up families, it’s quickly becoming online gambling. At least for the men coming to them for counseling.

I also think that’s why Vegas is struggling. Middle America can get it’s betting fix on a screen in their house.

Glad I was cured after getting my butt kicked on the Viking/Chief Super Bowl.

I’m sure his NIL deal isn’t a 5 million dollar check the day he signs and lots of the money had strings attached. Too many kids have backed out after signing at this point.

Some of yall have no idea how bad a problem this is…The kid made over 2000 bets…one bad day, youre down 500 0r a thousand, in the blink of an eye. You try and catch up and make it worse…Bookmakers require minimums…You cant bet 10 dollars, thats not how it works. You make a 100 dollar bet? Thats 110 dollars. You bet 11 to make 10. You win? you make 100. You lose, you lose 110. The amount of bets he made tells me he was betting because he had to be down. He HAD to…its a compulsion. I know all about it, because i’ve been there. You have no idea how stressful it is, even when you win…I also hope he gets the help he needs, because a compulsion like this can wreck a family and create terrible problems.

Sounds like hell and I’ve put myself through enough varieties of hell to avoid adding a new one if I can.

I’m glad to hear it so thanks for posting. Sometimes sports betting looks fun and harmless but reading this makes it easy for me to keep away. I tend to jump in way too deep with every hobby so this one will never be a match for me.

I’ve gotta say I always love to hear someone able to get away from any addiction or compulsion because it’s an incredible feat in my eyes.

A bad situation can become worse, much worse, if Sorsby owes money to the wise guys. There is no sympathy. Those guys prey on greed and the addiction.

I don’t understand how the federal government can step in when JUUL e-cig went wild with their ad campaigns preying on teens, but their hands are tied on the gambling industry.

F**king lobbyists at their absolute finest.

I feel absolutely awful for the kid. Addiction is a real problem. I’m wondering if he was also making bets for his friends, or if others had access to his accounts. That’s an extremely large volume for someone to be doing alone.

Either way - this should’ve been addressed at Cincinnati. The conference has had safe guards for betting with the software they use. Players are put on a “prohibited bettor” list and if they make a bet an alert goes to the institution. Hate to see it come to this.

There are many off shore accounts, I doubt he bet on any of the so-called legitimate stateside sites. Add a couple of burners and friends, he would plenty of access. Depending on which he used, one can make live bets for $5 or less. Very hard to track.

Legal age to sports gamble in Indiana is 21 and I think it’ still illegal in Texas. I think there are only 5-6 states (not Ohio) where it’s legal under 21. Sorsby turned 21 in 2025. Bets started in 2022.

Illegal activity and NCAA prohibited activity. He’s done.

Sorsby bet on his own team, Indiana, when he was a freshman, to win. Betting on your own team regardless of win or lose, can result a permanent loss of eligibility in the NCAA. This an addiction and I feel sorry for the kid. I am sure he is going through hxll right now.

I hope Texas Tech takes a compassionate approach and supports Sorsby during this rough period.

That’s why I’m inventing Porn Bet dot Gov (sarcasm) it’s bread and circus time in the USA

Dopamine’s a helluva chemical lol

I saw on social media that Oregon’s #2 QB is in talks to come to Tech.

I think that’s just clickbait garbage.
