Tulane vs USC

lol Franklin never had a losing season at Vandy in fact he won 9 games twice in his 3 years coaching there. Fritz has won at least 9 games once at his time at Tulane, and that was this season, in year 7. These two coaches aren’t even remotely similar in the speed in which they’ve obtained success.

Yeah it’s incredibly clear to me why they hired him. They understood the context of Brown’s record. It was a good hire. UNC is smarter than a lot of the people here.

Talking about the type of rebuild job. Taking two small private schools to unprecedented success in leagues where they lag behind in facilities, fan support, tradition, etc. yes Franklin got off to a slightly quicker start. Guess what though, both guys are the only coaches in those respective programs histories to lead their team to three straight bowls. Success is relative.

A 2-loss G5 making a NY6 and then winning it. Absolute madness. Congrats to Tulane. Tulane and TCU are telling the good old boys club to pound sand and I’m here for it.

I wouldn’t say Frankin’s was slightly better it was exponentially a better start. it took him half the time. In arguably a tougher league.

One sec. I’ll be back. I have something cooking. lol

Franklins conference records his first three years were 2-6, 5-3, and 4-4. For Fritz it was 1-7, 3-5, and 5-3. Pretty marginal edge for Franklin.

What’s the overall records each of those years? Show the whole thing please.

Why would you compare the non-conference slates of a P5 team and a G5 team? Their relative positioning in the sport is completely different. Of course Vandy won more nonconference games. It’s to be expected given that they’re an SEC team. Using the conference performance is a better metric because it show’s performance relative to your peer schools.

IMHO, Dana is our coach next year…might be some changes to staff but if no moves have been made so far…that’s not likely happening. Unless, someone ups and quits.

He’s getting year 1 in the B12 to prove his mettle…maybe two. Lord help us. I’m buying my 4 FB season tix for at least another year. Probably switch to basketball and/or baseball if things go south. Shame, because I really like my FB seating neighbors…

… how did I miss this thread…?

I kept randomly chiming into the regular bowl thread. son of a b!

I’m more disappointed in the apparent lack of staff changes than Holgorsen keeping his job, which was absolutely going to happen.

My buddy is the “King of Nashville”. He now runs the southeast for Iheart media. Texas Tech guy.

He called me after meeting Franklin who was down the street at Vandy. He told me he was the real deal and would be at a big program soon.

Now his son is a frosh at TCU. He broke down and is taking his son to Sofi. He won’t wear purple though.

Fair enough. I agree, that would be a better metric. What do you think about this list I created? Who would you move and to where? I think Fickle and Fritz can be moved, but it’s solid IMO. D Tier is difficult to rank because you usually don’t have a head coaching job if you’re doing that bad. I could have thrown Sumlin on there. lol

Fritz is almost 63. By comparison Tony Levine is 50.

When Fritz left for GA Southern after three years at Sam, Levine was in Year two and went 8-4 in the regular season. When Fritz left GA Southern for Tulane, Herman had completed a magical year.

Would we have stolen him from Tulane after one year? Doubtful. How about after three years? Possible. He went 9-15 in conference but was 5-3 in Applewhite’s last year and destroyed UH 48-17 at TDECU. Dr Khator said we fire coaches who win eight games (like Levine and Applewhite) so we weren’t hiring a 7-5 coach from Tulane when we could get a P5 coach that beat Texas in Austin and had deep Houston and UH ties.

Willingham and Dykes A tier
Holgorsen and Fritz B tier

Idk how I forgot about Dykes. Agreed. He’s A tier. He has figured it out quickly in his two most recent stops.

Edit: Willingham is on the A tier. He’s right after Brian Kelly.

Would you put UTSA and TTU coaches at B+?

Tech coach is a great motivator and beat UH, UT and OU in same season. It’s been one year and had a few close wins. Meanwhile Traylor at SA only lost two games and ours was in OT.

I’m having to guess at a few of these because of image quality on my phone but I’d probably drop Freeze to C tier and give Fritz a bump to B.

Also I see you’ve got Tommy two face in B tier. Hes an interesting one because in the big games he’s probably as good if not better than most of the A tier guys but he’s pretty C, as in crappy, in trap games. I guess averaging that out to a B is about right.
