Sometimes an artist isn’t appreciated until after his death.
That was true in the case of VanGogh, who couldn’t sell but one painting.
But NOW…his paintings are worth MILLIONS, and have HUGE popularity. He’s considered one of the greatest artists ever, and the VALUE of his works say so.
OTOH…TV shows that flop…and movies that flop…generally don’t get the benefit of becoming more popular in the future.
It can happen, but usually not.
If a show isn’t entertaining…then it’s value, which is largely determined by ratings (because that’s what drives advertising revenues) is going to be low, and if it can’t entertain, then it’s quality from a show BUSINESS perspective is poor.
What kind of make believe world do you guys live in? Not everything can be high art, or super high quality. That’s why we have Walmart and Neiman Marcus.
It’s hilarious how you have turned it into money and “Showbiz” now……your point was idiotic to begin with which is why you are doing the “Law” thing……twist it, turn it, use slight of hand, to get people to think that’s what you meant….
And the fact that you don’t even see it is nuts……
Tell me Law….Do the Emmys use ratings to hand out awards? Does the Academy Awards use box office to hand out their awards? Golden Globes? BAFTA?
The critics, actors, etc. vote on these awards……popularity has nothing to do with who wins……it’s the quality of the performances or the overall show/movie.
Those awards aren’t a good measure of quality to me.
Hell, there was a King Kong movie from the 70s that got nominated for a few of those.
Guess what?
That movie blew chunks.
So no. That doesn’t measure quality in my mind.
Ratings for TV shows and revenues for movies are the ultimate measures of success in show BUSINESS (emphasis added), and ultimately the best indication that the work provided QUALITY entertainment to the largest number of people.
If nobody watches your show, or nobody will pay to watch your movie, then it probably isn’t entertaining, and as such, can’t be said to be high quality entertainment.
OTOH, if your TV show gets high ratings or your movie is a hit, that’s a pretty good sign that it is entertaining, which is what all show business endeavors ultimately try to be.
If that isn’t the ultimate measure of quality, then what is?
The Academy Awards “are not a good measure of quality because one time in the 70’s King Kong was nominated for a few of them and that movie blew chunks”
I always watched to pick up pointers, kind of a “how to” manual on video.
Now I’m taking the educational component to the next level with “COPS en espanol”. Trying to practice my Spanish, which may come in handy with policia mexicana in the future.
