Some movies like Excalibur are cult classics.
But the original Dune just straight up sucked. I always tell people that haven’t read the novel, but have seen THAT movie version, to NOT judge the book based on that film.
In fact, its director was so embarrassed by it that in some of its video releases, he has succeeded in getting his name removed from the credits. The pseudonym “Alan Smithee” appears instead.
I’m glad this new Dune series has given that great novel the great movie treatment that it truly deserves.
Incidentally, unlike that Dune, the new one wasn’t a flop.
Obviously it was better quality.
Here’s more on that.
The director, everybody knows David Lynch, was mad they didn’t release his 5 hour long cut. That’s why the new one is two parts. Because it was an impossible story to tell in under two hours.
We can agree on Excalibur, so lets leave on a win. Tons of people don’t see the quality of that movie…Do you know a blacksmith actually custom made each peice of armor in that movie

That movie had some tremendous armor!
The other amazing part about that movie is that a number of actors who were unknowns then and got some of their earliest credits in that film, later became major stars, like Liam Neeson, Gabriel Byrne, Ciarin Hines, and Patrick Stewart.

Why not throw the show Cheaters into the mix. I mean it appears that it’s been on tv for a good amount of time so it’s obviously making the producers a profit so they’re most certainly bringing some wonderful entertainment to the public.
Like I said on my first post, I know these pathetic shows exist, but a show like DWTS, and someone (a man) is going to admit they watch this garbage. My MIL watches this garbage and she asked me a few yrs ago if I watch it and my wife started cracking up. Her words exactly, “Mom…seriously? You think he watches that cr@p”??

Obviously lots of people watch it and like it, otherwise it wouldn’t have lasted for 25 seasons and counting.
There must be something good about it, otherwise it wouldn’t be so enduringly popular, which suggests that more people than you are willing to acknowledge think it’s good, and disagree that it’s garbage.
So let me translate this logic. Why are you supporting UH football? It’s garbage when compared to the blue bloods. Football played by the likes of Georgia, Bama, Ohio state is art form at its highest. Why bother with anything less?

No reason dancing and singing competitions can’t provide comparably good entertainment.
As I said…certain folks here calling it “garbage” doesn’t make it so…especially when weighed against the sheer MASSES of humanity that think otherwise and have made those shows among the biggest and most enduring hits on TV precisely because they think otherwise.
It’s alright to like garbage just like people can eat all the junk food they want.
But lets be clear, no one in the industry of making shows consider those shows quality. No one aspires to make those shows. It is done because the as you point out it can make money. Being lapped up by the most people doesn’t make something quality it just means it was consumable. So eat up all the crap you want but dont defend it as anything but a silly pleasure like junk food.

But judging by how many people WILL tune it on re-runs…which I’m guessing is pretty high…it provides QUALITY entertainment to many!
