TV Series

I thought they were fine. I’ve liked everything that’s been released to varying degrees. Ms. Marvel is good but it’s clearly a YA property and not aimed at me. I can still appreciate it for what it is tho.

I think fandoms get caught up as thinking their personal particular taste is the taste of everyone else. So when a piece of content that comes out that they don’t absolutely love then they think that content is somehow a misstep or shouldn’t have been made. But that’s not how a streaming service works. Not every title will have mass market appeal. That’s what the movies are for.

Dr. Strange 2 made a billion. Spider-Man No Way Home made a billion. Thor 4 and BP 2 will do the same. Disney ain’t going to be losing money anytime soon. The Mouse will always get his bag.

Eternals fell way short and was awful.

Shang Chi also did not do well either. Though i really liked it.

And you are correct, Mickey will make his money…lol

It was still a pandemic going on which is the clear attributing factor lol. No movie did well or near normal until essentially Spider-Man in December. Shang Chi still ended up number 2 for the year and Eternals, #6. F9 was #5 and James Bond was #7. Not a great box office year overall.

Finished the Lincoln Lawyer this past weekend…… some of you probably saw the movie several years back with the titular character played by Matthew McConaughey….I didn’t care for the movie all that much.
The same character in the series is played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo whom you may have seen in The remake of The Magnificent Seven or Sicario-DOS.
He was pretty good…. There was one REALLY bad casting decision…. Character named “Cisco” is supposed to be this ex 1%er bike who is now the detective/muscle of the operation…. It’s just a fat dopey guy that was not believable.
Overall I enjoyed the show…. It had the same format as Goliath…… not as good but similar.
Show is on Netflix.

So my wife is really into Under the Banner of Heaven on Hulu/FX. Not my jam usually but it’s pretty good overall.

Yeah, we watched that a couple weeks ago…… acting was good…. It really made you want to punch a couple of those guys in the face…… especially the character played by Kurt Russell’s kid.

I like Andrew Garfield…. One of the great young actors IMO.

The show was good but it’s something I would never want to re-watch if that makes sense.

I enjoyed Lincoln Lawyer, but it was easy to figure out. Still, good pacing and good enough acting. Setting it up for 2-3 seasons in the future.

I thought Lincoln Lawyer was fun but didn’t think it was a particularly great show. I’ll keep watching though.

I need a light/funny series to watch with the wife.

Suggestions?

Netflix’s God’s Favorite Idiot is light hearted fare.

If you’re into nostalgia/reality TV and just need a background show they’re are literally 30 something seasons of The Challenge on Paramount Plus. Won’t make you smarter, a better person, or even think. But it’s kind of funny, you don’t care if you miss anything, highly recommend if you have children for lack of effort involved. Plus there’s a crap ton of them.

I made it almost two episodes before I turned it off…. But that’s just me…. Others may enjoy.

I used to get sucked into the sunk cost fallacy with tv shows but do like you now. If it doesn’t catch my interest, I bail within a few episodes unless someone tells me it’s a slow burn and it’s worth it.

Kevin Feige is much better at his role than Kathleen Kennedy is at hers. What he did at Marvel has been amazing, DC generally has bumbled every attempt at replicating it and Star Wars has been uneven/inconsistent with their strategy.

Has anyone watched Dark Winds? I think it ison AMC or AMC+.

I watched the first two…… I enjoyed them…. Was starting to get good about midway through episode two.

I also like the setting…… early 70’s in New Mexico….FBI and Tribal police do not work well with each other….lol

I recommend it.

You said slow burn and I immediately thought of Bloodline…… really enjoyed that show…… if anyone has not seen it you need too…

Back watching Barry (waited for the full season to be out) and glad that it is still a great show.

Love Barry, but the cliff hanger is frustrating. Especially since we had an extra long wait for this season because of covid.
