Hang in there @Coog1992! At least the basketball side is more civil than the football thunderdome.

Now you are getting it !
@pesik. I agree with what you said.
Should my post have been made after Game 4 in a season? Probably not.
But that was my opinion watching the 2nd half. I guess that’s not allowed
i don’t think anyone is really coming at you… most are just saying they dont agree…
and your opinion is valid, you have extremely high expectations for the team, and its your right to have to those expectations … some are just pointing out that it might be unfair to what this team accomplishs if the bar is so high that most things wont be seen as an accomplishment…you are quality poster, i dont think anyone is denying that
Well yeah we just played a pretty complete game to build a big lead while shooting nearly 60%.
So yeah your opinion on the butler game is pretty poor.
And I’m not a troll. I watch this team alot. I love their effort.
I’m not a sh*t poster.
To be honest, I do listen to Jeff Goodmans podcast and Titus and Tate, who cover college basketball.
And they like Houston, but they don’t love Houston. And I ask why? Why don’t they like our team/program as much?
And its probably cause they dont think we’re on the Duke, Gonzaga, Purdue, Kansas, Villanova level
I think we are. Just need to improve the offense a bit.
Oh well…this was great yall. Really enjoyed it.
Get some sleep guys. We have another game tomorrow and I hope we get to discuss an ugly 18 point win over Wisconsin.
Well said. @wewantyoursoul
Yes. First of all we decide what percent they shoot. Not them.
Second, we’ve shown historically that we turn up the heat offensively when needed.
Just my opinion and memory.
I don’t think you are going to see too many teams dominate on both sides of the ball unless you got a ton of pros on the roster. Its difficult to have them compete they way they do on defense and have a flawless offense. As the program has gotten more talented players the offense has improved. The key will be the improvement on offense from the bigs as they enter the big 12.
As for why Goodman, Titus and Tate and others don’t love Houston, a lot of it is bias towards the AAC and bias towards an “outside” program. The national guys don’t do much research outside of the “power” conferences so its easy to dismiss. If you follow the more analytical guys that cover the sport more in detail, they always rate Houston high.
“I don’t think that Houston has played a great offensive game. I think Kelvin Sampson would tell you the offense didn’t perform at the level he’d like” - Jay Bilas, with 3 mins left during today’s game
That was originally the point of my post. That the 2nd half was clunky and didn’t have as good ball movement as the 1ST.
Part of that was due to Butler, who’s defense picked up in the 2nd half. Those handoffs to Sasser at the top of key were guarded really well. And prevented some of the looks we were getting in the 1st half
Wasn’t trying to bash the program. Or last years team. Things just got a little heated.
My apologies. Go Coogs
Offense takes the longest to gel especially when you have a bunch of new guys. I understand where you are coming from but we have to give Butler credit for playing better in the 2nd half. Also the game was pretty much over after 15 mins so its hard to keep college kids focused when it’s pretty much done. That being said they shot 51% field. The biggest gripe right now is FT shooting to start the season.
Have you considered the fact that Butler actually played lot better in the second half ? I believe every team is taken aback what CKS team delivers. It took them a half to recover. If I am a Butler fan, I will be shocked by this performance.
@Coog1992 Nobody is coming after you but calling this an ugly win and making a whole thread about it is unnecessary. Kevin Sampson would be to first to say something was about ugly win and even he said it was a good win. You cant dominate a game like that and call it an ugly win because of a 5-6 minute stretch out of a 40 minute game. Like @pesik said you need to way lower your expectations. You said Sampson was an average offensive coach yet he had a top 5 offense last year. And if you are getting your takes from guys like Jeff Goodman you are going to be hearing a lot of pessimistic takes about UH. Hell you might as well listen to Seth Davis lol
About a month ago on the Titus and tate show the guy who is an Ohio State alum said houston is fake and posers and really not good, and spent the next 30 minutes talking about good programs from the last couple of years, almost all of whom we had beat. Didn’t even look at the records, clearly. One of which was his own crappy Ohio st team. Lazy journalism, just like jcoop9 said. F those yahoos. Not worth the time.
Rothsteins podcast is well researched obviously. Give that one a look.
This team has final four potential. How crazy is that where we are realistically talking about back to back final four appearances. If you were sitting in the Hof during the early 2000’s, to even think we could get back to Phi Slamma Jamma levels would have been absurd.
But here we are.
Coogs 17 — Butler 0
Game over!!

I’m not sure you are factoring in everything that goes into offense.
Offensive efficiency is measured by four factors. While effective FG% (i.e. shooting 33.3% from 3 = shooting 50% from two) is most important, turnover% and offensive rebounding% determine how many shots you get. The final factor is least important, getting to the line (FTA per FGA).
Sampson’s teams are stellar at getting offensive rebounds and not turning it over. And pretty strong on effective FG% given all the threes we usually make.
Offensively, we rank 14th nationally this year in KenPom efficiency. The last three years, we ranked Top 25 on offense too. Top 40 every year going back to 2016…
2021 = 7th
2020 = 22nd
2019 = 19th
2018 = 38th
2017 = 39th
2016 = 21st
“Average offense?” Please.
What a silly post, amazing to me how people follow the program and watch many games yet still don’t really know whats going on.
