Anyone know when they will start on this?

Once done, it’s really going to transform the campus.

Only 2 yrs and a few months to get it done

I really want them to incorporate what they do with the Bayou Oaks clock tower into the middle of campus. In the new green space that they will have, where the fountains currently are, in the circular area in the designs, they should have something that lights up red after football and basketball wins and conference championships.

Good idea and it could be iconic

Anyone see construction starting on this ? I read construction was supposed to start winter of 2024 then be done by yr end 2026.

I just took a tou of UH’s campus yesterday with the Preservation Houston group…there’s lots of things ongoing construction all around, but jot sure if it’s related directly to The Centennial Project.

What I would like to know is, with centennial coming up, how does Dr Khator feel about traditional students and does anyone on the board agree with her?

Looks like they have started renovations.

I wonder if they have started demolishing Farrish yet.

Don’t know, but my guess is this was taken
from the web camera on Farrish. Not seeing a
demolition camera listed on the UH site.

they’re going to spend 35 million on landscaping ? i seriously doubt outside the exec offices on campus, one comment on it is made.

Have you seen price of a bag of mulch these days !

I get your $35 million landscaping question. I guess some will be used for demolition of Farrish. No idea how much demolition of a building that size costs.
Few million at most ? Redoing the fountains maybe 1-3 million ? New sidewalks and plants and trees. Doesn’t seem to add up to $35mil.

Maybe somebody in landscaping business can better estimate if the $35mil sounds reasonable.

It’s more than just landscaping if you look at the renderings.

I’ve looked at the renderings but it just didn’t look like it added up to $35 million to
me. But granted, I’m not in this business; educate me on what the cost break down looks like per item on a project of this scale.

Have you seen any line item costs for all the different things it covers ?

Is university drive included in this? That’s going to be an entirely new street

Yes University Drive is part of the project. However from the renderings in OP’s
link, it’s not really a new street. Before and after it looks very much the same with
wider side walks, a new wide sidewalk down the middle of the existing esplanade
with shade trees on all sides and new lighting and benches. I guess it’s matter of opinion if that constitutes an entirely new street or not.

Maybe it all adds up; it’s just pretty large sum of money. I’m certain it will look better overall; just doesn’t seem like $35 million to me. But things generally always
cost much more then I think they worth too.

They are doing a lot per this. It’s not just landscaping. It’s new gathering areas , trees etc. It really will make the campus eye piping and on par with other p4 campuses.

Those are old renderings. There are completely redesigning everything

I’m looking at what’s posted on UH website. For Univ Dr it’s not a new street.
4 lane boulevard converted to 2 lane street, trees, lighting, benches and few tables. Landscaping mostly. Improvement visually, but not really blown away
by it.

Lol. They are ripping it up and pouring new concrete with completely different drainage infrastructure and everything. How is that not new? The whole thing is different. If you can do it for less you should tell them quickly.

This’ll be one of the best campuses in Texas when it’s done.

I think the miscommunication is in our definitions of new.

It’s a “new” street as much as Cullen is now a “new” street, that went from
4 lane boulevard to a 2 lane version. Same idea being implemented on
University Drive. Granted it has some aesthetic improvement value, but not overly impressed with the results. At least not $35 million impressed.

If you replace a 4 lane street with a new 4 lane concrete street it’s new too in one sense; but not really in another.
