Does anybody know what the UH Band is doing in preparing for the Big XII football season? New uniforms or have they added more band members?
I heard theyâve been recruiting sousaphone players with P5 size.
Omg please new uniforms, gradient is not it
Also glad that last year they went back to the old fight song without some extra random cadence thrown in there( no one knew how to sing/cheer/confusion ensued)
Womp womp still strong but under-used
Gradient?
That hasnât been the band unis for like 3 years.
Whew relieved to know itđ Looked it up and I kept getting that back. Whatâs it look like these days?
I am not an expert in what the band is doing in the last couple of years. Those uniforms (in the picture), were made by the Fred J Miller Co. of Dayton, Ohio. After marching in the UH Band, I taught drum majors at the Fred Miller Camps for years. Fred gradually moved into the uniform business, as bands changed over from a traditional style, to a âdrum corps styleâ. Then computers also moved into the uniform business, allowing the uniforms to change to a one color cloth against another color of cloth, to machines that could gradually spray the color onto the cloth and change from one color to another and letters. No longer did one have to have particular colors coming from the cloth mill, the computer could change the colors gradually. Fred passed several years ago, but his sons (and daughter) have taken the company to a whole new level. (The daughter runs the camps, the sons, the uniform company.) All of them are great people!! Yes, I have known them for over 50 years. Iâm old. They are not. Wonderful people.
I went to the UH Band Alumni meeting last week. Pretty good turnout and Band Director Cameron Kubos spoke to the group. They have several shows planned for the season including a âBeyonceâ show and a special show for the TCU game featuring our rise to the BIG 12. Cameron has done excellent work with The Spirit of Houston. I think our band will be one of the best in the BIG 12. Cameron wants the full band to travel to 3 away games - Baylor, Tech, and Kansas State. BUTâŠmoney is still an issue. Without specifically saying so, e-mails to Athletic Director Pezman AND President Khator expressing support for these trips could help. We need to step up! Weâre Big Time now, and have a great band! The team needs the support on the road.
Great informative post !
Thank you !
sure hope that Pez will place the Longhorn band in Sections 323-324
I would just like for them to retire the Super Mario uniforms.
Itâs worse now.
Not sure which uniforms youâre referring to, but personally I think the current uniforms are beautiful. Very classy and sophisticated!
Yes, Texas started this by placing the LSU band in the nosebleed section. The next year the Alabama Band opted not to come. Itâs my understanding that (at least for now) this is the Big 12 policy - visiting bands are placed in the upper levels. Terrible policy in my opinion! Also, visiting bands have to PAY for the seats they occupy. Another terrible policy in my opinion. I wish UH would break with this policy and welcome the visiting bands and seat them in the lower bowl. Starting now, we will be hosting the visiting bands - at least Baylor, TCU, Tech, and maybe Oklahoma State. And this year UTSA. Band fan or not, this will certainly increase the college football atmosphere!
Lets start that in 2024 AFTER we host UT
What does it cost to take the full band to road games ? I assume itâs all by bus and is
pretty much a full day dedicated to travel.
Thanks for the update, good infoâŠ
