The stars themselves don’t make a guy good. But in general they are a good, albeit imperfect indicator of exceptional athletic ability.

Stars make a big difference for the 5 stars and high 4stars. Not much difference between the mid 4s and 3s when it comes to NFL. That’s the real difference between the elite recruiting schools like Bama, Georgia, Ohio State and others - the top 100 recruits. Texas is just starting to get more of those under Sark so it will be interesting to see if that starts translating to more wins.

The probability of getting a great football player that is a 5 star is exponentially higher than the probability of getting a great football player that is a 3 star. Or a 2 star. Or unranked.

Not all 5 stars or 4 stars for that matter are created equal. Obviously some are hits and some are misses. Some peaked in high school and some still had a higher ceiling. Some fold when they find out they have to work harder than they ever did before to be as good or better than other 4 or 5 stars.
Stars do and don’t matter just like first round draft picks matter. Some are the real deal and some flame out. The key is to figure out which ones are and aren’t. Alabama has done a good job of sniffing that out. Texas has not.

Lol Texas has always had rosters full of 4 and 5 star athletes. To say “Sark” is just now bringing them in is the joke of the year.

Over the past 60 years there have been very few years Texas wasn’t dominate recruiting in Texas

Texas and A&M have it diametrically opposite of how Kelvin Sampson has his program set up.
No one goes to play for Kelvin Sampson thinking that its going to be easy. They know that they are going to be tested and it is really going to be hard but it will be worth it because you will be better.
You go to Texas and A&M wondering what new toys you are going to get.

The Athletic had an article a while back showing that stars matter way more on defense than offense.

Regardless of the talent, I hope our defense improves back to '21 numbers when we surrendered just 21 points a game. If not, the Texas offense might embarrass us at home. However, their overall record was better last year because of an improved defense. GP has their D playing at a high level.
