That’s all I’m saying. Just wait till we hear both sides. This thread had everyone with torches and pitchforks from the get go.
In real life, everyone looks like hollywood actors too.
Help me out man, don’t make me go out and kind of agree with these skullduggerous rapscallions about movies vs. Real life.
I’m pretty sure he’s saying that the public story told by the Tuohys as shown in the movie and other media asserted they adopted Oher. Since that’s been revealed to be false that puts all of their other claims in doubt especially in direct contradiction by what Oher is claiming in his suit against the Tuohys.
I suppose some sort of fraud case could be made based on that, but it’d probably be weak, given that, in all likelihood, Oher’s signature is on the conservatorship agreement, and there is probably a court record on that.
I know how Hollywood works. I also know why people hide the truth.
Yes
We have two millionaire families fighting over money. How is anyone on here sure of who is telling the truth. Did he get ripped off or is it a shake down? I personally have no idea. I say we wait a little and see how things pan out.
I’ll have to watch the documentary since those movies tell the truth
Talk about make believe
More fact based, but not always the truth.
Agree, I wouldn’t be shocked to see this go either direction.
I also think it’s very possible it gets settled and we never really know.
Settlement is most likely
Yeah I don’t really care about either, but I remember when I first saw this movie in theatres and then watched interviews of the real Michael Oher - I was genuinely shocked at how stupid they made him look in the movie.
I mean it was borderline intellectually disabled in a clinical sense I felt the way he was portrayed
Nope a bunch of you said it, documentary are what you watch for the truth. I must have thought Blind side was documentary, otherwise why would i think it was truthful. Brilliant
Agree. They also made the HS football coach look like he didn’t know crap about football which was stupid.
For those that don’t know, that HS coach in real life is Hugh Freeze who obviously knows plenty about football.
So here are the facts as we know them currently
Oher lived with the Trouhy’s
He is under a conservatorship currently to this day
He was not legally adopted at any point.
The Blind Side both book and movie made a substantial amount of money
No one here is actually poor and destitute.
A conservatorship is not an adoption in any way.
There is currently no evidence the conservatorship has been misused in regards to Oher’s NFL money.
Putting a conservatorship on someone over 18 is not as easy as asking him to sign some paperwork.
Claims
Oher claims he was lied to about being adopted vs a conservatorship
He also claims he did not receive his share of the movie proceeds. The Trouhy’s obviously claim the opposite.
Straight up rumors
The conservatorship was drawn up by a “family friend” lawyer to control Other and get him to Ole Miss where the Trouhy’s are serious boosters basically avoiding a Penny Hardaway James Wiseman situation. But also making sure he doesn’t get to share in any inheritance of his “family”
Totally Irrelevant but may influence opinions on who to root for.
The Trouhy’s especially the wife and kids are held in pretty low regard as being giant d-bags, and other names by folks in Memphis who have dealt with them.
Here’s the way I look at it, because even if those “rumors” had any legitimacy - ultimately, this family is the reason why Michael got to the NFL period.
Assuming at least most of the movie is based on real life fact.
Yeah it’s sad if they didn’t adopt him merely to prevent him from taking any inheritance (I can see this becoming a racism issue), but still, he got to the NFL because of the family.
That’s the thing it’s not. Oher was already a fast rising prospect playing football, nor was he a giant borderline mentally handicapped kid. He was also staying with other families at that time. The Trouhy’s did give him final stability probably because they wanted to get him to Ole Miss
There’s a real good chance he was getting to the NFL with our without them.
Yeah, I’m not convinced that’s true. I think all of that was greatly exaggerated.
