UH, Rice talking about adding two more years to football series

The schools are in the process of adding home-and-home games in 2024 and 2025 to the five games previously announced.

“Our intention is to carry this thing forward indefinitely,” Rice athletic director Joe Karlgaard said Thursday.

We need to stop playing powerhouses like rice to open our season.

If Rice starts taking football seriously, with this coach, they will be much improved.

I agree. Why should we do something to help Rice when they screwed us all they could forever.

It was Rice that was the biggest obstacle to getting into the SWC, not UT as some had thought.

Rice screwed us on the use of their stadium when we needed a place to play during the TDECU build.

No I dont want to play Rice anymore

Totally agree, red…Rice has tried to do nothing but screw us for 70 years! They bring NOTHING to the rivalry, NOTHING! They have virtually NO fans, a decrepit dump of a stadium and they deliberately screwed our fans on ticket prices and parking. I intend to write Pezman and RK and ask them to stop playing those people…We have nothing to gain from it. .

I think we should play them each and every year. Every other year we get 7 home games when at Rice and when they play at our place we win. On the field I like playing them. The fans and players have nothing to do with the Admin screw ups so I don’t worry what I as a fan can’t control.

I thought yesterday game was a lot of fun.
Their new coach is very good. And they do have some really good players.
PV I think was just the bait to lull us in. Almost worked.
They’re probably going to win their division.

Yesterday was a much better game than last year game.
Which would you rather watch?

Hoping for many more great contests to come.
Lets make this a true rivalry game.

It’s interesting to see which fans conjure their inner Longhorn when talking about Rice like Longhorn’s talk about us.

We should play them every year, but not at Rice. We should just pay them to play us at TDECU .

Rice was not very good the last few years. But we were also there not too long ago.

Imagine if Rice become a much better team under the new head coach. It would be good for the both of us to have two good college teams in Houston. The rivalry would be a lot more fun to watch and garner much more national attention.

What ever transpired with the administrations the last 70 yrs, let it go. Negotiate those grievances out in the next deals. If not, treat their fan like they treated us when it’s our turn to host. Better to get even and move on than to hold grudges.

Not sure if it is true, but I read somewhere that Rice paid us $100k for yesterday game.

I am fine with playing Rice. But, UH doesn’t seem to stir any passion in the Rice alumni. We always have 90% of the fans at the game.

Winning fix a lot of things.
Fan will show up if they start winning.
More fun to watch competitive games.

We went through that.

I’m not sure that merely winning will be enough. The Rice brand in football hasn’t had widespread appeal in more than a half century. Even when Rice does have winning teams (which is rarely), it’s still mostly UH fans in the stands.

I can understand that some within our program would want to play ruck. Unfortunately the SWC is no longer. We have nothing to gain playing ruck especially if they are getting better. We can be sold a local rivalry. The fans interest is the best response. ruck has proven over the years that they could care less about U of H. It is a fact not an opinion so why schedule them? Their stance on the stadium issue should be a reminder for everyone. We need to build up our strength of schedule as much as we can. Schedule MWC teams like Boise. SDSU, Wyoming or others is imo more beneficial.

If they win their conference they’ll have fans next year. The rivalry is made from both sides taking W’s and trash talking (which rice had no problem doing yesterday while i was on their side during first half) and it gives us an extra home feel game. The stadium could use a remodel yes but with no big teams to play no one comes out. We are arguably their biggest game so doubling the parking price makes sense for them to make more money on the game in a season where they have no more than 6K fans per game. Its similar to our position vs OU. They scheduled us at NRG because we werent good then we were ranked and advocare made a killing off that game. It wasnt that long ago that we were averaging 20K or less and now are in the 30s. All im saying is if they can provide an easy home and home win for us whilst winning their conference that benefits us.
