Sad, our “Blue” game in softball is against Incarnate Word this Sunday. You would think they would save it for a conference foe, but I am guessing they want to win the Blue game. And maybe on a day where they aren’t competing against baseball for fans?
But Houston is a hot bed of softball talent.
Yes but again it’s way out the way and the mode of thinking is different out there - it’s basically out of town
Waste time recruiting a local from Katy who will string you along or get someone from further out just as good as will come at a moment’s notice?
If HISD put out a high quality softball product things would change tremendously as their students understand the environment
This is total garbage….you know nothing about recruiting.
UH softball was a great program at one time….
Played our first P4.
Lost 6-3 to Pitt.
Quit watching the nightcap vs Nevada after we batted in the B5 up 5-1. Just checked and we’re now down 6-5 in the T7.
Is Pitt any good?
I don’t think they are….not a good sign ahead of B12 hitting.
We lost to Nevada 10-7 in extras.
It’s criminal what’s happened to our diamond sports.
We had the bases loaded with no outs in the B7 down one and only pushed across one.
I know nothing - your right - I just had 2 relatives sign to play P4 sports and one was softball - I don’t know what these folks are thinking in these streets - uh ain’t an option for softball now for the good local stars as all are in the burbs.
I don’t really care how many relatives signed to play D-1….i can play that game a lot better than you if you want?
You make it sound like it’s impossible……sure I’ll agree that right now and for the last few years top players in outer Houston don’t consider UH….that is not what I’m saying.
But you make it sound as though it’s not possible so why bother….that is why I said you don’t know what you are talking about….just like baseball….it takes ONE coach that knows what they are doing to make inroads with the top showcase teams and it can change on a dime.
I coach 17-18 year old showcase teams….there are schools I will not send my kids….right now UH is on that list.
But they are one great coaching change away from myself and several other coaches changing their attitudes.
It’s the same in softball……lots of great players in San Antonio and Austin to draw from as well.
The coach is not a favorite with a lot of area hs coaches and parents from what I have been told. Hurts more on the local level because of all the chatter that goes on within the travel teams.
We will never win with this coach, negativity is increasing even more.
Pollard is absolutely correct.
If the kid has an offer and wants to attend - step aside and let them go - coaches don’t want to deal with outside influences or the influences want too much input and of course they’ll look elsewhere -
I’ve seen how some outside coaches have negatively recruited a school because of their own personal beef than let the kid experience it themselves - yes you play a part but step aside once your opinion is factored
Honestly - I’m recruiting the kid or the summer coach? Then the calling them when I get to college to speak with coaches is another issue.
Your job is get them exposed and step aside - when UH was good there was less influence on the outside
The best players want to leave - bottom line - NIL makes it much easier for them to leave - let’s work to develop talent inside the loop and you can change the narrative overnight
If you think my job is to just get these kids “exposed and step aside” you prove you don’t have any knowledge ….just stop man.
I can’t believe you actually tried to tell me how to do my job….lol
My job is to put the kid in the best situation possible….somewhere where I know he is going to get coached the right way……somewhere that I know he will be able to use his talents….somewhere that an idiot pitching coach isn’t going to ruin his arm, somewhere the head coach is not just recruiting him as a warm body….i never want my guys to have to transfer to get playing time or because the coach is horrible.
So no, I don’t just get them exposed and step aside….good grief man.
Trust me I’ve seen kids who were oversold to certain schools based on “input” from “coaches” who get giddy cause so and so from A&M, UT called them when in reality they’re a much better player at a slightly lower level - then you blow off certain schools off the top even though you that kid has more ties to other schools that fit them more - happens all the time - seen club coaches threaten college coaches about recruiting their programs again if so and so ain’t doing right
Again I’m recruiting the player or you?
Not worth responding to you anymore.
You are clueless.
Trying to tell me how things work or should work when I’ve been doing this for 25 years….i have guys in MLB, several in professional baseball and a ton in all levels of college ball.
I’m good.
A 4-3 win against the mighty Pitt today.

A win against a P4 is a win. Period. Imagine if they lost. I’ll take it and give credit for it. 6-2 so far is OK. If the record is not better than last year, we look.
Am I lying? I know the game like you - been in it just as long except I’ve seen both sides on a consistent basis - the stories I know from club, JUCO and D-1 coaches on who controls what
UH and Rice baseball was better when HISD was stronger - people have abandoned HISD and other suburban areas and flock to the burbs for perception - lack of investment
Oddly enough high level HISD kids have no issue attending UH and have done well historically but everyone wants to spend time in the burbs where most don’t even sniff houston
Did anybody know we turned a triple play to end the game last night? Saw it on ESPN.
