Saw that……heads up play by the first baseman.
Katy, Pearland, etc. who cares if it’s in the burbs. All the softball players play tournament ball, high school is playing down in competition for them. They play 1000 more games outside of high school. That’s where you recruit. There are college coaches at the tournaments. They can see 100s of players in one weekend. So high school recruiting hardly matters in softball. But I will say that being local, our coaches have an advantage meeting the local players. If they make the effort.
sir.
I’d be fine with these small victories in the first or second year of a coach’s tenure but I’m not going to get excited about beating the worst team in a P4 conference ten years in.
Right - they see 100s and if the locals want to play hardball I move elsewhere and recruit someone that’s going to listen faster and normally out of area kids tend to have more interest in playing for houston
But oddly enough when HS ball was at its peak across all sports in this city coaches were more visible and recruited better in my opinion as they had to get out and be seen and people took notice - if you weren’t seen people let you know and it was an honor seeing a coach come to the school
Now it’s show up, look and go and in some cases collect a check for showing up
UH 8th.
The softball team needs another Angel Shamblin.
That’s the thing about softball. One top notch pitcher can make or break a team. Shamblin was here in 2008. Hard to believe it’s been that long. One NIL commitment would get us back in a hurry. Guessing UH is saving those dollars for the new coach-to-be.
How’s Tech’s million dollar NIL steal from Stanford working out?
Our current roster has no one from Katy, CyFair, The Woodlands or Sugarland.
- Five out of state
- Greater Houston MSA: Pearland, Spring, Conroe, Crosby, Fairfield, Fulshear, Santa Fe, Beaumont and Galveston
- DFW north area: Little Elm, Denton Guyer, McKinney
- Austin metro: Round Rock and Georgetown…further out – Harker Heights
- Valley: San Benito
No transfers or the previous colleges just aren’t listed?
Not bad actually. ERA of 0.62 and averaging over 10 k’s per game. 4-2 record, losing 1-0 to #1 ranked texas and 3-1 to #20 Mississippi St. in 8 innings.
Worth a mil in a non-revenue sport? Probably not, but if someone wants to spend it, take the money.
Plenty of talent out there for far less that would probably be an improvement.
UH Softball starting off hot.
Yes, hopefully they extend the coach ASAP!
Great win today against the 0-6 Kansas City Roos today. Not even sure what conference they are in. Now in the process of a 2-0 lead against the mighty McNeese State of the Southland Conference.
Oops…now 4-2 McNeese in b6
Why do I even care???
TW must have helped with the scheduling.
I don’t know lol
Beat Tarleton 6-3 to go to 10-4 on the year.
I really don’t like doing this for the players’ sake, but they have yet to play a truly decent opponent. I will gladly eat crow if they prove me wrong as the season progresses, but have my doubts they will.
The program really needs a change at the top.

That said, they would have lost to some of these last year…
Faint praise. Vesely was elevated to head coach in 2017. The last times UH has made the NCAA tournament was in 2018 and 2019, with Kyla Holas’ recruits. The last conference championship was 2011. Finished last in the B12 last year. Doesn’t look any better this year.
