UH's top moments as a mid-major

The time has come for the end of UH’s run as a mid major but before we go, we can take a look back at the top moments:

1996–Southern Miss vs UH (49-56)

In the original de facto C-USA championship, UH upsets Southern Miss in overtime 56-49 and goes on to sow up the conference the next week with a win over Louisville.

Sorry, no video available.

2003–(Hawaii Bowl) UH at Hawaii (48-54), Kolb to Marshall

UH would go on to lose but arguably the most exciting play of the last 25 seasons was when Kevin Kolb connected with Vincent Marshall for an 81-yard game-tying touchdown with 33 seconds left.

At the 3:46:00 mark of this video of the full game.

“Over the middle to Marshall. Marshall–look out! Vincent Marshall in a footrace to tie the game! Touchdown Houston! Can you believe it?!”

2006–2006 C-USA Championship Game, Southern Miss-UH (20-34)

UH defeats Southern Miss to win its second C-USA championship

Here’s a highlight of a catch during the game:

2008–Tulsa-Houston (30-70)

Houston routs a nationally ranked Tulsa.

LJ Castille TD

2009–Texas Tech-UH (28-29)

Case Keenum leads a drive for a TD with less than a minute to go as UH announces their return to national relevance.

Final 53 seconds

“Houston wins!”

2009 UH-Tulsa (46-45)

The Coogs get a TD fail to score 2 then recover an onside kick before nailing a 51-yard field goal that landed in the window of the building behind the goalpost and net.

TD, 2PC attempt and final kick

“It’s got the distance, it is good! Cougars win…Todd Graham put it in your pipe and smoke it baby.”

2011–UH-La. Tech (35-34)

UH rallies from a 34-7 deficit to stun La. Tech.

Completion of the comeback:

Keenum becomes the FBS all-time leader in total offense.

It happens on this drive:

We should have a win at Miami. I still have nightmares about blowing that game.

Thanks, almost forgot about the comeback against Pitt. Added to the OP.

Good point WWTB. The Memphis 2015 win was as significant as most of the items on TP’s list!

That was one of the best UH games and atmospheres I’ve ever been to!

I was at the Armed Forces Bowl vs. Pitt and had what is called a complex-partial seizure just before the game started. I was at the game physically, just not there logically until about the last 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter. I was glad my family decided to stay and watch the game instead of go home.

UH vs Memphis 2015

Kenneth Farrow TRUCKING Pitt. :sunglasses:

You sure you can’t find an argument in there… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Just want to point out that in both the Pitt and Memphis game where UH pulled off 20+ point 4th quarter comebacks, both comebacks were started by Farrow. The TD against Pitt was a little more emphatic because like you said he trucked the defender, but he had a nice stiff arm against Memphis the following year. Respective plays start at the beginning of the first video and the 1:30 mark of the 2nd. For yall’s entertainment. lol

Mid-major is a basketball term. Has nothing to do with football.

College Gameday coming to us vs SMU in 2011, and Lee Corso breaking some FCC regulations picking us

There are clearly mid-majors in football and given the current environment, there’s an argument that we’re STILL a mid-major.

Good call, I forgot about that.

Top call for mid-major? LEAVING!
