I hope this doesn’t get bad and we and russia can agree on something like if they become nato, we don’t put certain missiles there and Russia mentioned that from what I read. If we make them nato, just make it in the sense we will protect them but not arm the region to the teeth with certain missiles. It might be a way out. Hungary mentioned if war breaks out, it will be a whole European war. Gas will go to $8 gal and the stock market will fall at least some bc of uncertainty which the markets hate.
Is this a 2022 version of “Wag the dog” movie we are watching?
Case in point:
biden’s polling numbers are at its lowest.
He already lifted sanctions on the russian gas pipeline.
germany has already committed to not help its NATO members and so called allies.
ie: the UK sending arms goods to Ukraine. germany refuses to have the UK use its airspace.
biden is clamoring “bad, bad russia” Then he said that soldiers conflict is out of the question.
A few tears back biden and obama told putin:
Go ahead have Crimea.
obama said to putin lackey:
“Don’t worry I will take care of it after the election”
I am asking which is which?
or more accurately
Is someone trying to make all think that he is a tough guy?
IMO Ukraine has no business being part of NATO until it shows that it is indeed 100% independent. Again who is kidding whom? Ukraine is a highly corrupted country. Moreover who was on the burisma board? hunter. biden then vp got the DA fired because he was investigated the hunter burisma relationship. The same burisma is a pro russian company. Again, again did I say again?
Who is kidding whom?
Given that Russia is the aggressor here, no.
I hope we’re smart enough not to back Putin into a corner, need to throw him a bone. But the bone (that’s need to be negotiated by the diplomats) shouldn’t be another nations sovereign rights
How long has russia been the aggressor vs Ukraine?
Did Crimea happen by flipping a couple of switches?
No, Putin just called Obama on his private line.
Et tu, Jim? ![]()
I don’t think Obama ever took Russia’s side over the United States intelligence agencies or sought their help to win an election like someone else did.
It ebbs and flows.
This is just the latest instance.
I particularly like the First battle of Tannenberg (also known as the battle of grunwald).
This is all political theater. There will be no war over Ukraine. Russia has influence over it already and they do not need to start a war to get it. What you are seeing now is political maneuvering so we can say we tried and we care.
I hope so and it seems unrealistic for us to go to war with Russia even in a Vietnam sense where we have advisors or some troops in there. The sad thing is russia really isn’t a threat to us now but China is.
This sounds about right, in my head I see the negotiating playing out like this…
Russia/Putin: So Ukraine will never be a member of NATO?
US: F No, we never actually wanted them in the first place. We did that just to annoy you.
Russia: Well it worked.
US: Yeah No, Bleep. You just jumped straight into Cold War bullcrap. Not even a phone call.
Russia: Well where’s the fun in that? Now you have to publicly say you won’t let Ukraine in which makes me look good and you look bad.
Today’s chronicle says Putin and China are talking and are against nato expansion. A lot of biblical Protestants say Armageddon happens where China and Russia are aligned and go after Israel eventually. Hopefully this situation can be defused.
New cold war. It will end like the 1st cold war did with China and Russia on their knees.
New cold war. It will end like the 1st cold war did with China and Russia on their knees.
Perhaps. But dynamics are much different this time with a very economically powerful
China. And our economy is much more intertwined with China’s economy then the US ever was with the USSR. I could be wrong, but in CW I the Soviet Union was the big bad boy and economically I don’t they seriously rivaled the US economic might. China is on track to surpass US GDP in1-2 decades depending on who you listen to. But maybe the intertwined economies serves as a moderating effect on escalations. But who thinks an arms race is a good thing for any country ? OTOH I suppose one could argue an arms race pours a lot of funding into basic research and
large domestic investments in defensive/offensive industries. Bad is good ?
The Philippines are playing their China card under their current leadership. Other Asian countries could flip flop too. Important the US not get caught up in isolationist policies, promote Japan becoming more independent defensively, along with Australia, and helping India become a super power.
Nice post!
Wouldn’t it be nice if common ground as opponent to confrontation and forcing one’s will on another were the goal! Just saying.
Lockheed, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, and others have entered the chat.
Yep and new ones yet to be created; but an arms race seems like a foolish way to
stimulate economic growth if that’s the desired objective. Very dangerous game with chances for
mistake more likely. In this country though, that may be the only politically acceptable path for
investments.
