UNLV QB redshirts

I knew something like this was coming - essentially pulling out on teammates in season whether the NIL isn’t coming through or another school promises you big NIL for next year and you call it a season. I love college football but with no effective guardrails the whole thing is just maddening and makes it hard to be invested.

I remember a Florida recruit suing over NIL promises not kept but don’t believe he ever stepped foot on campus. Crazy times

Little awareness here.

Brett Favre just announced he had Parkinson most likely caused/accelerated by repeated hits to the head.

I bet 99.99% of us, here, do not have jobs where our cognitive welfare is at risk…College Quarterbacks do.

You don’t have to like NIL but it IS THE LAW OF THE LAND, as ruled on by the Supreme Court of the United States of America.

The thing I find shocking is how amateurish these NIL deals have been drafted…These are nor formal at all, in this infancy stage.

These NEED to be LEGAL CONTRACTS on what the SPONSOR (NIL) is expecting and not expecting and if one side breaches said contract, they need to be help accountable in a court of law.

so YES it is a job now…the schools aren’t paying the athletes directly but the NIL COLLECTIVES are…those are the money sources…the Athletes are INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS!

This is the perfect storm for this to happen. Sluka probably has made zero money before his UNLV time and I bet some desperate B1G or SEC team offered him dumb money

Then they need to draw up better contracts between the NIL Collective and the athlete including damages for games not played.

Not Rocket Science…they just need to put the SPECIFIC details of what is expected (both sides) in a legal document BEFORE the season starts.

Arizona State tampering their ass off.

Apparently this is way too common, and schools are making promises their boosters can’t fulfill. And this kid probably isn’t getting to the NFL so he has a very small window to earn.

Sadly, this is the shape of things to come. We won’t recognize CFB in 5 years.

They could fix all this NIL/Transfer nonsense…Contracts!

As far as concussions go they DONT have to play football everyone knows the risks going in and if they are paid now good then we can boo them when they suck and won’t feel bad about booing as I did before since they are paid to do their job on the field then I expect better results

The $ genie is out of the bottle. With contacts will come lawsuits. Only the lawyers will be happy.

Why didn’t UNLV just pay up? How much could it have been? $200k? Guess they didn’t think he’d shut it down and Odom must be a peach to play for.

Btw D’Eriq is doing great with SMU’s QB. See if it holds up vs FSU.

I agree 100%.

our moderator HERE removed negative comment made about Donovan Smith

Dude is probably making mire than all of us here so of course he deserves criticism.

Kobe and LeBron received criticism when they were 18, 18. 20 because they choose to be paid or for a high profile job and THAT came with the job, same with DS.

If he is playing like garbage…he deserves to know it.

It’s also his choice. Nobody is forcing him to play, he could pay to go to class like tons of others out there. “Mommy, that mean prof didn’t give me an A on my test”.

I hope the mafia isn’t contributing to his NIL.

There may not be an “I” in TEAM but there is in NIL.

NIL cannot be paid for participation in games or performance in games. Of course, the NCAA isn’t really enforcing anything. The player can still show up at your car dealership and sign footballs.

TEANILM !

So this is essentially a McCaskill situation just mid season?

No contracts is the problem… it’s ruining college sports. He expected to get paid and didn’t so he bolted.
This has nothing to do with colleges making tons of money because many like UH are in the red.
Eventually there will be contracts and unions involved to keep both the players and programs in check.
