i love this country…Capitalism!
NIL deals sure feel very similar to old time illegal booster deals.
Son… You’re going to get a new Cadillac and a $6000 / month part time job. Now as you know this has to be very hush-hush and I can’t put anything in writing.
You would think there would be parents, high school coaches, or someone that would warn them that if a deal isn’t in writing there is No Deal.
It would be simple to come up with a short worded disclaimer that all univerities would have to get all new recruits and transfer players to sign that says
“Any monetary or gift promises that are not in a WRITTEN contract signed by the NIL Collective and player are not enforceable.”
The coach must present this disclaimer separately from any other documents and (because of its brevity) personally read it out loud to the player.
The player and coach must sign the document and each have a copy.
Why couldn’t he have done this before the first game? Ha Not sure it would’ve made enough difference.
Am I mistaken, or can schools and/or coaches not yet be able to negotiate NIL deals? They can next year, but not this year. If that’s the case, I’m thinking the NCAA will be looking into it because it sound like the coach was negotiating the NIL deal… For what that’s worth.
Bad passer who beat us once and thus has our fanbase convinced, apropos of nothing, that he’s great? Matthew Sluka, YOU are a Houston Cougar.
The beginning of the Sluka era in UH football
Another data point for why I believe NCAA should give players 6 years to play 5, period.
No more redshirts, medshirts, grayshirts, etc.
EVERYONE gets 6 years to play 5.
Sounds like the basic an assistant coach promised him the sun, moon, and stars at a visit, he committed and discovered the coach did not have the authority to offer anything, so the collective is saying we upheld our financial commitments (because they never had one) and they have been stringing him along under the guise of working to get him a deal. I am kind of shocked they could not find $100k for their transfer QB1 after starting the season like they have. I am also shocked he would walk away over $100k because like it or not this will damage his reputation.
My first thought upon reading the article was this was going to be a case of the collective defaulting on a payment because of poor fundraising. At some point a collective will go bankrupt.
In the article, the sluka camp says the OC made a deal with them in the winter to get the commit.
Whats really strange to me is that he didn’t hit the portal in the spring after getting 400-500k offers. Also, UNLV had a ton of transfers. Why screw over your QB? It’s all just really messy
Why limit the number of years at all?
If a player wants to play college football for 15 years or more, why is that a problem.
If the pros come calling, then leave.
If you lose your starting role, then leave.
If you graduate, then leave.
Otherwise, why is staying a problem?
Before anyone says, “because that is not what we have being doing”, consider how many other things have changed over the years… portal, NIL etc.
It’s part of the NCAA Eligibility Rules. A person has 5 years to compete in 4 seasons. I have not heard any support for eliminating that rule.
Okay seriously, what Big Ten program would pony up $$$$ for a 3 year starter from Holy Cross? That is absurd in my opinion
Right? Lol
The dad said they had 400-500k offers from B1G and SEC! If you are going to quit over 100k, I would have definitely hit the portal for 4x or 5x that before season started.
What is their agent doing?!?
I agree, at this point just make the NCAA a minor league of the NFL.
That’s like Colorado State’s QB saying he was offered $800k to transfer to a P4 school but declined… the guy is just as bad as Smith is lol
Should we pay players?
Should we allow all teams the opportunity to earn the championship on the field (instead of excluding half the teams with a rigged system & voting which is and has always been stupid)?
Two totally different questions.
No I don’t want him he gave up on his team, they have worked just as hard as him, it’s all about money no thanks just a locker room cancer
D’Eriq King basically did this to us. He was just smarter about the language he used.
