Shoot if that is the case lets start the rumor that we are thinking about changing our name because of the overtly sexual connotation towards older women.
We might sell some gear.

north texas and west texas state were not div 1
and I believe the distinction with UH and UTEP was football
My understanding is UH was the first div 1 to have black players in both football and basketball.
Weâd probably have better luck putting those attractive older women in our gear or have them draped over a man in our gear to move the merch, think those Carlâs Jr. commercials from years ago. Then you use the ensuing controversy to "pull the advertising " let certain outlets run wild with the cancellation narrative then rake in even more in spite sales.
Itâs on ours as well. Not too big, but itâs there. I was in drill team so I just have the drill team boot one side and WHS Rebels on the other. Looking back, glad I donât have that flag on mine.
Have we thought about an advertising campaign with attractive older women?
You know like âCougars for Cougars ⊠come on out we know what weâre doing.â
Who isnât buying a season ticket.
Or for the first time ticket buyer. â Cougars for CougarsâŠyour first time? Not ours.â
This is going to sell like beanie babies.
Oh does this not fit into the overall academic image of the university?
I hate giving anything UT credit, but I think the students and school have done it the right way. They had reasonable things they wanted changed or adapted and the school put together a committee to look into them. It has only been the alums (not all) that have tried to put their foot down of no change and tried to destroy credibility of the committee before it even comes back with advice/options. They canât have it both ways of ignoring history but claiming current students are trying to destroy their heritage. You can get both or you get neither.
The only way I could see the song staying as is would in a compromise with something like making the university educate incoming students on its past and allowing student athletes to decide if they want to stay out and sing it. If those are non starters, then there is no chance of anything happening.
Why donât we just let Texas do whatever the hell they want to do and if it costs them recruits ⊠winsâŠmoney maybe they will change. But I strongly believe the players will go to Texas because they donât give a damn about a song. This was 19 year olds trying to be fashionable.
What division were those other schools in? I get your point but bottom line we were not the first college in Texas to offer blacks scholarships.
The donors said itâs my way or the highway.
UT-Austin football players say they were forced to stay on field for âThe Eyes of Texasâ to appease angry donors and fans
No one forces then to go to ut !
The best solution is for the players disrespect the university traditions and walk off the field before the Alma Mater and for the big money donors should withhold all donations. There, problem solved. Can we get back to UH football now.
After the OU game with Sam left on the field by himself with a couple of coaches standing at attention with his Whorn hand sign up the Whorn boards were so hot between losing that game the way they did to their arch rival and that entire incident it wasnât just the big money that was raising hell. It was almost their entire fan base.
It was obvious going forward that the AD, driven by the president that the football team wasnât going to be allowed to go to the locker room again when âThe Eyesâ played. Whether the article is accurate on how it was told to the players youâll probably get 100 different stories and they presented different versions in the article. It would be interesting to hear an honest version from Herman but the article couldnât reach him for comment. I was convinced that incident after the OU game cost him his job far more than his record (which wasnât bad).
The Whorns do have a major problem. The song is going to stay. How they get all (alums, admin, students, band, players) to buy-in going forward and whatever actions they need to take may take a magic wand.
What is going on in Whorn Land is just representative of society on many fronts. Except you have the legacy fan base pushing back and big time. The big money there really counts, but it is across their entire fan base who are standing strong behind âThe Eyesâ.
Other than the media bringing up this topic again and again, I think this issue is mute since black players are still lining up to get into UT knowing they have to stay and sing the Eyes proudly.
Well it is the donors who pay for those elaborate athletic facilities. Well except for the bubble. If they tell you to jump, you say, how high? (my satirical view of the situation)
I think the Eyes issue is a stain on UTâs reputation nationally. I do wonder if UT will be able to maintain that small 6% black enrollment or will it decrease to something even smaller. We shall see.
Yeah, my old personal trainer, his son committed to UT (It makes me feel old lol) and held onto his commitment even after Herman was canned. So, he is obviously not focused on a song. He is excited to go to Austin and play football. Edit: Oh and theyâre African American.
It will depend on the worth and value of a UT degree.
If itâs still viewed as a top tier education internationally, everyone around the world will continue to compete for the open spots to be educated there.
Skin color will make no difference. People want to be educated, and the best opportunity to be successful.
If you hire people based on where they got their degree instead of how intelligent they are, you are playing a loserâs game !
Unfortunately that is exactly what happens. Have you ever heard, âitâs not what you know but who you knowâ?
How big is your endowment or how much research dollars do you bring in is how they rank colleges. Iâm sure there are a few other non-educational factors, but what does all that have to do with the actual education of the student?
UT who has a large endowment, large donor base and bring in a lot of research dollars, are ranked high.

I hate to say it but our UH has been infatuated with folks who have a degree from those places like UT and will hire them way before they hire someone else who has worked with less and produces more. They think they know more but they had all the resources to even try and be successful
As an AA - you choose to go into that I have no sympathy when you have issues. You knew what you signed up for. But most of them wonât say anything cause theyâre scared or paid to be quiet.
Never heard VY or earl campbell say anything and never will
Speaking of Earl Campbell, this is what he and Ricky Williams had to say about the song:
