I’ll say it again. Some of y’all can’t help yourself. I’d ask why but it won’t do any good.
Hahaha that’s awesome
The latest from their president.
"People who target our students with hateful views do not represent the values of the Longhorn community. A few extremist views in the sample of emails the Texas Tribune reported on do not speak for the 540,000 proud Longhorn alumni who actively support our students and university. Out of the many emails I received this fall, a very small number included comments that were truly abhorrent and hateful. I categorically reject them, and they bear no influence on any aspect of our decision-making.
> The fact that we don’t all agree on our school song doesn’t mean that we don’t all belong. Next week, the Eyes of Texas History Committee will release its report. Equipped with a common set of facts, we will then continue the conversation about our song. Having spoken to students and faculty on the committee, I truly believe we can be a model for how communities address complex problems and move forward together.
You could see how hostile many of their fans were about the “The Eyes” on their boards.
Their president needs to show leadership and try like hell to bring their community together. Hopefully their committee has some constructive ideas they can take forward with a constructive results and move forward.
What’s humorous to me about all of this is that if Texas gets rid of “The Eyes”, then A&M will have to scrap their fight song since it’s completely dedicated to trashing UT and “The Eyes”.
To hell with UT… Vote for Grimes!!!
The problem with the current group of players trying to change the song is that they suck. If Vince or Ricky wanted the the song changed, Vince would have gotten it changed to a hip hop version, and Ricky would have gotten a reggae version.
I laughed at this… Because it’s all true.
I graduated from Lee and if you got the mascot on your ring the flag is on there in plain sight.
It goes too far for sure. Just like when the masses tried to boycott Nike and were burning shoes or Keurig and breaking coffee makers, or boycott the NFL or the NBA.
I am more concerned about the “I’m offended that you are offended culture” though. Removing a name like Redskins is not cancel culture. Native American groups have been working for years to get rid of those because they find it offensive. Are they not the group who should decide if it is offensive or not? But the crazy thing is, now a bunch of old white people are more upset and offended because Native Americans don’t like slurs against them. Now we see boycotts and calls to cancel companies who change mascots. It’s ridiculous. Those racist UT alums who would rather have black students leave the school than listen to why they are upset about the song are the worst group of people. They are trying to cancel donations, cancel support, cancel student athletes rights, cancel anything they don’t like. They are supposed to be the grown men and are acting like babies.
Oh you going to hurt some fee-fee’s with that one, but well said indeed.
It’s a catchy saying. Which schools were they? lol
Nope not going there!
. I’ll let this amazing thread continue on its track.
Edit: bad enough I told on my own school.
You are pointing out exactly why “cancel culture” should be cancelled. Couldn’t agree more. Its just being used in response to it being used.
Cancel culture goes totallty against the concept of working through issues and come to common ground or at least more tolerant of others with the goal of allowing all to enjoy then the seek and destroy nature of cancel culture.
The UT president seems to be on the right track but they have screwed this issue up before. We’ll see what their committee has to say and recommend and go from there.
Although I am a die hard Whorn hater, I am not about it for this issue. I hope they work it through and come to a common sense and productive conclusion that all sides are satisfied with and their community can move forward. The rest of the country could learn from them if they do.
Hartzell said last fall that the song will remain.
“‘The Eyes of Texas,’ in its current form, will continue to be our alma mater,” Hartzell said. “Aspects of its origin, whether previously widely known or unknown, have created a rift in how the song is understood and celebrated, and that must be fixed.”
Part of that plan to “fix” the understanding was the creation of a committee to study the song’s history. Hartzell said Tuesday that the report would be released next week.
“The fact that we don’t all agree on our school song doesn’t mean that we don’t all belong,” he said. “Next week, the Eyes of Texas History Committee will release its report. Equipped with a common set of facts, we will then continue the conversation about our song.”
I find the “cancel culture” issue to be quite circular. Both sides of nearly every issue trying to “cancel” something for different reasons so it’s not going anywhere.
Yep, cancel and destroy versus evolve and improve.
It’s all a matter of one’s perspective.

Ok one comment, I doubt any asian American ever gave one thought to Dr. Seuss books racist portrayals.
Not sure Dr. Seuss is the best tie in. Dr. Seuss Enterprises cancelled themselves in this situation which I think we would all agree they have every right to do.
Who is on the “panel of experts” that this article is referencing?
Personal theory, this was brilliant emotional manipulation by the Seuss estate. Pull the 6 books who have obviously problematic illustrations, but also these are slower selling books. If this was Green Eggs or other heavy hitter they would’ve just hired an illustrator to fix them.
But by this move they stop the cost of publishing, get a mild dose of credit for doing, and get the pearl clutchers to buy the books in droves, as well as usual suspect books and laugh all the way to the bank at how easy it was.
