I still don’t know why people think we have a second tier NIL when it comes to basketball. lol
Don’t thk too many if any are questioning the NIL level that UH has been able to attain to. Obvious w the type of players they are bringing in. Im not, if that helps. My concern was in more defined way n i expressed to ehog the double standards.
Hope that helps.
From the outside, it looks like Sampson is playing a long game with his recruits: play for UH and you will get the best development possible in pursuit of professional basketball and you will always be a member of the basketball family. That must play especially well to the players’ parents.
Because they read exactly ONE article that listed teams that did not include us.
Even though the article did not have an exact amount or actually know what our NIL was….but they read it so it must be true.
it was on the internets…
As my grandfather used to say before he passed….” Get on the line and see how much tickets are” .
You know what also plays well? Money.
They don’t understand how much our players are worth If they hit the portal. So much money would get thrown at them. It cost to have a roster like this. And you can’t go grab three 5⭐️ and not expect to pay up lol
CBS reported that we’re in the 2nd tier of NIL (same as other programs like KU for cbb). Not saying anything against the program just referring to this article. We’re in the 8 million dollar range which is solid and we’ll probably go up with all the success from last season.
Even if that is true, which it isn’t, that means we are in the top 25 in the entire country for NIL. Out of 360+ teams. Or the top 7%.
Believe it or not we are the only college team named after a city that is consistently doing well.
Most college teams that do well are named after a state.
This is because a state is bigger and can usually bring more fans, players, coaches, and NIL money.
Another type of college that does well in basketball are the ones not named after a city or state - such as Duke, Baylor and Gonzaga. Since they are not tied to a geographic area, they tend to get nationwide, players and fans.
Justin in shambles
There is only one winner in college basketball per year. If you are in the top tier paying NIL, you are overpaying. UH does more and is more successful flying under the NIL radar than programs spending money like drunken sailors.
But we are in upper tiers, however to your point we aren’t throwing out money around super crazy. We seem to use our money very wisely in where we put it.
Vs. Say last year’s KSU who the a bunch of money around with no thought to roster construction
Are we forgetting UCLA, Louisville, Syracuse etc?
UCLA has state name in it. It’s not ULA.
But the other 2 are rare unicorns like Houston.
If you can’t find a city hidden the letters UCLA you’ll find people won’t take you very seriously.
But the original take is also really odd. Starting with SF in the 50’s, then Cinci, then UCLosAngeles, Louisville and Syracuse, you’ve got about 15 National Titles.
Hard to argue that things that occur regularly are non-existent, i.e. Unicorn.
They are unicorns. Its why you can only find 5 or 6 of them
I can’t prove it but I’m pretty sure if UCLA was just called the university of Los Angeles, they won’t attract nearly as many state and nationwide athletes and championships.
You had to go back a half century to name a couple more than just the 3 unicorns.
