Watching the game through the lens of Reality

Understated… but understood and I agree…

…and Fritz > Briles. No disrespect intended.

Maybe, but he hasn’t proven that here yet. Briles pulled us out of the ditch at a time when the school was not investing in athletics at a competitive level. Fritz started out with a weak roster but significantly more resources to fix it. And Briles was a first-time college head coach when he was here.

If Fritz can create the same level of success here that Briles had at Baylor, then he’s proven it. But until then……

Fitz isn’t ever going to run a video game offense. No one should expect it, ever. But it is fair to expect the offense to come out and look competent for 4 quarters. And not say “defense pitch a shut out, while we figure out how the offense may or not work this game”

We scored 35 points last game… wth are y’all talking about?

And almost 400 total yards on offense…

Yes, 21 points came in the 4th quarter… last I checked you still play 4 quarters in a football game…

Agreed. And it’s fair to say he inherited perhaps the WORST Offense in college football in 2024 and is making measurable strides in improving it. The fact is… there are a handful of guys who post in here, who take every opportunity to impugn the character of a man who is tailor made to bring Houston Football back to it’s glory days. Heck, one of these guys is trying to make it personal with me, as I guess it’s fair, in his mind, to attack anyone, however unwarranted, for having the audacity to stand up for Willie.

If you look at our best season in recent history, 2015, you will see that 35 points would’ve won every game…

Or last season… 35 points would’ve won all games except the KU game…

Here’s hoping we can score 35 in every game this year. With 2 goose eggs last year, the jury is still out.

We’re 2-0 this year. 2-0 against the spread (which means we did even better than oddsmakers expected). We’re averaging over 30 points per game and have only allowed 1 touchdown in 8 quarters of football. Was the competition top 25? No. But Willie didn’t put them on the schedule; he just BEAT them. Yet, these clowns still aren’t happy. They’ve been hating on Willie since the day it was announced he was the new Head Football Coach for the Houston Cougars. Do I expect we’ll continue the level of success in conference play? No. We may, Lord forbid, lose a few games. But…this team has the right coach, is making GREAT strides, and while Willie isn’t Art Briles, I’m glad he’s not. Willie is one the most genuine, talented, and dedicated men I’ve ever met in my life. I can’t prevent haters from being on the wrong side of history. All I can do is point out when they act like children…

You didn’t stick with that one very long.

This guy came in here calling long time fans clowns, children, in fantasy land, arm chair quarterbacks, doesn’t know our history, and is creepily totally in love with Fritz. Like he’s the next Saban type love. Maybe he will be but at this point in his UH tenure the fans have a right to be on the fence. We’ve seen a lot of UH football. Don’t come here insulting us.

Yeah, it’s like a KenJourney-McMickle kind of thing going on here. :no_mouth:

It’s true that it’s too early to write off the offense, but that doesn’t mean that everyone who has concerns about it is stupid. I mean, even the head coach has concerns about it, unless his fanboys think he’s a liar.

I have concerns about the offense too. But it’s already better than last year. My only beef is with the posts that call him “grandpa”… or that Willie is soooo wrong for the team, but can’t make case for anyone who would have done better. There’s a big difference between saying we’ve been burned before, so the jury is still out (which is fair), and calling him names or making the case for him already “failing” somehow. Because he is not.

Not a “fanboy”, a friend. Don’t put words in my mouth by distorting or exaggerating anything I’ve said. I never said I don’t have concerns about the offense. I’m saying I don’t agree that unless we have 650 yards of it per game, we’re somehow failing. I’m willing to bet, whether we win or lose Friday, the same guys will be on here complaining and have nothing positive to say about Coach Fritz. There’s Fans, then there’s Armchair QBs. Most of the Fans who are on this message board are here to support their team. There’s nothing wrong with critique. There’s, however, a LOT wrong with laying blame at EVERY turn, when sometimes you just get beat by a better team, or the ball bounces the wrong way. Most of the armchair QBs find fault with anything and everything.

Yeah, you just have to ignore that stuff. He’s clearly not “too old” for the job even if he is a grandpa. :slightly_smiling_face:

Whether he proves to be the right guy or capable of putting together 10-win seasons in the B12 is TBD.

Regardless, making judgment on a group of fans based on gameday threads is pretty silly. If the venting bothers you, then you’d be better served by just spending your time elsewhere, because you’re not gonna change that dynamic. We have a basketball “fan” who bet a donation that last year’s team wouldn’t win more than 15 games, then refused to own it. Just laugh at the foolishness and move on.

We also beat a very good 9 win TCU team. On the road. Holgerson was the one who could never beat a top 20 caliber team.

Truly an impossibility.1 Briles ran an offense that was fast and, usually, played 85 - 90 plays. That means the defense spends too much time on the field. Today’s DI defenses are efficient to about 65 plays. The quality of play drops significantly after that
