Weigman on Keisean and staying at UH for 2026

His HS coach was a great QB for Fritz at Blinn and won 2 nattys there. Bishop and Fritz have been friends for 30 years! It is NO surprise he was hired…

So, what’s the problem?

It’s all above board. UH brought in the #1 high school recruit in the country, who, “oh by the way”, happens to be a dual threat QB.

…and…

Willie hired a lifelong friend, who was the most dynamic dual threat QB in college football when he was playing.

And he’s not only “a coach”…

…he’s a Texas High School Head Coach, who has recently won 2 Texas High School State Championships. Their trust level and loyalty to one another is through the roof.

Sounds GENIUS to me…

Ideal, if not PERFECT Mentor.

I don’t see where there’s any problem.

More like a… “no brainer”.

Michael Bishop has worn all the shoes Keisean will be wearing for the next several years, and did it to the highest degree of success.

Michael Bishop is legit !

Saying “allegedly” makes it sound like there’s some kind of hanky-panky going on.

Furthermore, the last time I checked, “big bags” were a part of the landscape of today’s college football.

For players, it’s called … NIL.

For coaches, it’s called… Salary.

Seems to me Willie’s lifelong career of success is paying off, big time. He’s racking up wins in recruiting, and program building, on an almost daily basis.

He gets more done in a week than the previous coach could do in a year. On top of that, he’s doing things none of his predecessors have EVER done.

For some of you, there must be something nefarious happening, or you’ve never seen what “success” actually looks like…

Get on board, or get left behind…

How do you know what new guy can do !!!

He hasn’t played a down of college football.

I hope he is a fast learner and one of the best UH has ever had, but seeing is believing.

I know what Willie and Michael can do, because I’ve seen it, up close, and personal, as in…

…being in the locker room with the team, being on the sidelines at games, and riding the team bus to away games, and being on the sidelines there as well. Being asked to speak to the team on topics of career success and leadership. Teaching college level Courses to players.

And I know that THEY both know what Keisean can do. Willie gained Kiesean’s commitment two years ago, and the young man never wavered. While Michael Bishop coached Kiesean in high school.

None of us know what Kiesean WILL do, until he does it, but…

I’m comfortable saying what I said, based upon my personal level of experience.
All the signs are there…

Committed early
Stuck with his commitment and never wavered
Not injury prone
Dynamic dual threat
#1 high school player in the country
Recruited to play for Houston by one of the best talent evaluators and developers in college football

I’m willing to bet that Michael Bishop will help take Connor Weigman’s game up another notch as well…

Michael wasn’t hired to babysit Keisean.

I think CoachV is required to leave something cryptic in every post

LOL

There more than enough cryptic on this MB already.

Taking good news and suggesting something nefarious is like telling a guy who’s about to sink his teeth into the best prime rib money can buy, that he saw an employee not washing their hands a couple days ago.

He’s seen this movie before

Are you referring to Weigman and what happened at A&M? Because that isn’t close to what is happening here.

I understand.

Just because I think Keisean has unlimited potential doesn’t mean I think he’s gonna win the Heisman his Freshman year. In fact, I actually agree that until Keisean does it in college, it’s just “potential”.

On top of that…

I’ve consistently been on the CW bandwagon the entire season, and I will remain there until he he’s gone… after next year (2026).

Then…

I’ll be all in on Keisean.

That’s the ideal situation, and that’s how it’s playing out, so far.

It’s no secret I’ve actually been making the same case for… “wait and see” with Keisean, and all the folks who were insisting CW would transfer out.

If Wiegman stays healthy, I believe he will CRUSH it next Fall, provided Willie continues to bring in, and develop, a better o-line.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…

There’s over 100 football programs that would take the UH QB Room over theirs; in a heartbeat. It’s an embarrassment of riches, and a good problem to have.

Here’s the deal….

We all know it…

This message board has been “inundated”, for over a month now, with gut feelings, speculation, and rumors… about how….

Connor is leaving
Keisean won’t show up
Connor is scared of Kiesean
Kiesean will flip to a blue blood
Connor will enter the draft
Kiesean will beat Connor for the job

Etc, etc, etc…

I argued against all of them, and so far… I’ve been correct.

Why can’t some people understand…

Connor is a damn good QB
Kiesean is gifted

Both things can be true.

They are BOTH a blessing to Coog football.

What coach has ever announced a player is redshirting before he gets to campus?

Conner Weigman won 9 games here, which is remarkable. But you’ve decided that the kid that’s going to homeroom tomorrow is better than the guy leading UH into a bowl. Cool

We haven’t heard that Nick Saban is coming out of retirement either.

There are literally millions of things we haven’t heard.

Not having heard something ISN’T a “thing”…

It’s just message board drama.

Right? Why do people even think this way? They act like there’s some ceremony that happens where players are handed a red shirt and their status is announced to the world.

It’s because some of them have convinced themselves they can go from “Madden” to actually knowing something about the game of football…

I’ll bet many of them play “fantasy football” and live at home, and don’t have a job…

When Carrier was coming in I told him he would redshirt and it would be the best thing that could happen to him.
He was adamant he was playing. He got redshirted.

He told me later that redshirting was the best thing that could have happened to him and he was going tell new freshmen they were lucky if they got to redshirt

Several points on this topic…

Players redshirt all the time. The coaching staff doesn’t keep them in the dark. But, like the other poster said, it’s not a big announcement.

In general, coaches would like to redshirt every freshman. Then they have an active roster full of 20-23 year olds, rather than 19-22 year olds. The entire team is bigger and stronger every year. The only players, typically, who don’t redshirt, are the ones who are either so damn talented you can’ keep them off the field, or injuries decimate the team at a position they play, and the coaching staff has no choice.

Ideally, redshirting is a positive for every player, even 5-stars.

QB is a position that is a little different. You don’t redshirt any of them until you see how the season plays out, because you need to keep a minimum of 3 guys who can step into that role, because they’re “one play away”, so to speak…

The only time you tell a freshman QB, at the beginning of the season, that he is going to be redshirted, is if he’s 6’4”, and 165 lbs, and you don’t want to get him killed…

If he were to redshirt, he could still play in 4 games and have a big impact. Or he may play in a lot of games and not redshirt… Who knows?
