Typically they go out and make a panic pick for QB. They struggle on the Oline because their personnel can’t run the scheme. They have to rely on special teams to help their offense. And their defense looks out of sorts because everything is new. In short, it looks nothing like what you envision it to be down the road. (Example: Briles’ first two years at Baylor)
THIS is what Dana’s team looks like in year five. If I were watching this and didn’t know any better I’d say this is a new coach with Jamie Bryant’s recruits.
Well as Colorado is showing, get a motivated and dynamic coach who wants to prove something and all these issues can be overcome.
I don’t mind an overhaul with a new coach. As long as he has the vision and instills belief, we should be good. Dana is a dead man walking. His continued presence will hurt the program.
The new hire needs to reinvigorate us diehards and that energy will carry over to the city.
I’m not saying what a new staff would do here. I’m speaking in terms of, what is the typical behavior of a new staff anywhere. It looks clunky and discombobulated. And rightfully so. A program in year five should not look this way.
These days anyone can be baptized in the fountain of short memories.
If we’re concerned what others will think about us then I wouldn’t worry about it.
If we’re worried about what we’ll think of ourselves then I’d worry about it.
I’d lean towards giving young Briles a shot. He’d be his father but only stay half the time. At least it would get us out of the mud.
I’d rather give Dana a lifetime contract than hire anyone from that family. I didn’t watch when he was OC, and I will find other things to do with my Saturdays if he is named Head Coach.
But but but we are new to the Big 12. Apparently he had us where he wanted us for the AAC but since we are in the Big 12 now he gets 3 more years and gets to act like a first year HC in some ways….or so I’m told. I don’t think anyone told Pez and crew that 20-25K in the stadium is coming if we keep losing though….
I understand we’re not in the reload business like a Ohio St, Bama, and Georgia are, but I agree with you that a fifth year coaching staff can successfully transition from a star wideout and star QB to something marginally decent the following year.
There are examples of this every season with multiple programs. They go 10–3 with a lot of seniors and then they regress one year to 8-5 before getting back on top again.
Dana is leaning heavy into that transition also being coupled with Big 12 opponents, but I don’t buy that equating to a 4-8 season. There’s enough talent there to be 6-6 or 7-5 this season. A five year coaching makes sure you beat UTSA, Rice, and Sam. And then you find 3 wins among Baylor, WVU, Cincy, and Ok St
I was thinking the same thing last night. Kendall‘s offense is not pass, pass, pass, all the time I’d like how he work the clock and he mixed up the plays.
Well. As so many people stated before, you don’t want an O like his because it scores too much, too fast and wears down your D.
That was evident yesterday as we were able to manage two field goals and 241 yards of potent production.
Agreed. I’m just saying I can be reasonable and realistic in what this roster offers this year combined with playing a much harder schedule. I don’t accept 4-8 with a loss to Rice and TCU lapping the spread two fold.
Dana using the Big 12 schedule and new QB excuse is fine as long as it equates to being competitive. I would have accepted losing to TCU last night 36-30 because we competed, covered the spread, and Donovan Smith looked good.
I don’t accept getting laughed out of our stadium.
