What does a new staff do?

" …if you hustle and you’re a salesman…" key words here…

Deion completely revamped his roster though the transfer portal.

He is one of MAYBE 2-3 coaches in all of college football that could have done it.

Plus, he had Shedeur and Hunter in his back pocket.

Deion, Shedeur, Travis Hunter, and Dylan Edwards are the straws that stir the new look Colorado drink.

THAT DOES NOT MEAN, that Deion is planning to use over half of his annual scholarships on transfers.

What Dana is and has been doing is not sustainable in a way that will lead to success.

The transfer portal isn’t filled with a bunch of players that are stud starters at their first college choice.
They are players that aren’t happy with their current situation.
Players that aren’t seeing the field, or been replaced by someone else.
See our current QB.

There are exceptions to this obviously. But they are few in comparison to the total number of players in the portal. And those go to top programs because of it.

UH and Dana aren’t swimming in that end of the transfer pool. Nowhere near it.

25 scholarships a year, and half of them going to transfer portal guys. 13 players that weren’t seeing the field enough at their last stop that they felt the need to transfer?
Oh but he was a 4 star out of HS!! We are putting together a talented roster!!

Are we?

Look, sometimes highly touted HS 4 stars players don’t pan out. Sometimes 2 stars end up being great.

I think there are more of the former than the latter.

Those 4 stars that don’t pan out, for whatever reason… they don’t have the motor, they can’t handle the stiffer competition, they have never had to compete for a position and didn’t handle it, they aren’t very good leaders. All kinds of reasons.

That’s who some have been getting excited about on the other board.

Now, when we are watching the games and our players look lost, or our OL looks formidable until the ball is snapped, or when the all edged strength of our offense is our receivers and yet we have one that leads the nation in drops, and another that is #11 in the nation in drops…
Are we really surprised?

Not all of these are transfers that are responsible for these things, but when a large portion of your roster are made up of players like this, it’s a recipe for disaster.

Signing players out of HS is a crap shoot sometimes. A number of them don’t pan out. A lot depends on the ability to evaluate by the College Coach.
What we are doing is thinking we can build a roster with players that for the most part, have already proven they didn’t pan out the way their previous coach thought they would.

We are putting a lot of players on our roster that didn’t pan out somewhere else, and expecting to have a high success rate?
I would argue that you have a higher success rate of players panning out from HS than the transfer portal.

This recruiting strategy that Dana came up with after year 1, is why I have been against his tenure ever since. That was the first of many major red flags of his tenure.

Prime could have done it anywhere. There are no other Primes out there period!

Snyder relied on JUCO transfers.

Guys that had proven themselves.

Not transfers that had washed out at their first choice.

Why you gotta make it so complicated Holmes?

I’m gonna answer the question you didn’t want answered Funk.

A new staff will come in and take advantage of everything we currently have instead of complaining and making excuses.
A new staff will come in and establish a culture the players actually want to assimilate towards.

A new staff will burn the candle at both ends if needed to ensure they look like a team that plays smart, clean football.

A new staff will connect with alumni and fans to give them the sense we are all in this together.

A new staff will WIN.

We would hope so.

But I’ve seen a number of new staffs come in here over the years and not win.

That said, I’m guessing most could do more than we’ve seen this year from CDH.

Still hoping we turn it around though.

I would like to see Kendal be the next head coach. We would at least have a qb and exciting offense

You hit the nail on the head and drove that nail all the way down into the board. CDH stated in an interview earlier this year that he expects about 40% of our players to be transfers which is about 10 per year and therefore expects us to have something like 40-50 transfers on our team. Like you say, a couple might pan out but most won’t in the way we hope for the reasons you mention and with transfers you don’t have the same time frame to wait for them to develop like a HS kid. I get that at Houston we are uniquely suited to bring kids back home that went away and I agree with that but we still need to be very targeted and careful in our approach with transfers. CDH is treating it like an ala carte menu where he can save time on the HS recruiting grind while also getting some brownie points by getting kids from “bigger” schools. Frankly it is ridiculous and I’m glad at least some others see through it.

And the plays develop faster so the QB who doesn’t have a cohesive O-line gets the ball out quickly and doesn’t get destroyed all game…

Won’t be long term…

But it will probably be a fun night!

Recruiting rankings are not a meter to be judged. If we had more recruits our ranking would be better and we aren’t just going to recruit anyone, we are recruiting the best that WANT to be here. Besides, with the portal high school recruits aren’t important and CDH is awesome.

Lol based on the field results they are worse than the recruiting rankings.

First of all, make sure there are no coaches remaining from the current regime. Then…fumigate the place to make sure there is no hint of the stench left behind!

And MAKE SURE Dana’s playbook isn’t left behind in the desk drawer.

I’m pretty confident Dana found Opie’s in the desk, and just decided to go with it.

My OP was meant to say, “Holgorsen’s program reminds one of a first year re-build.”

But because I’m behind in NIL, not enough people come to my posts, and you readers failed to execute on game day I’m having to explain it at this press conference.

DFW has won state titles multiple years now, been a fixture in title weekend…the staff needs more than Houston ties. A lot of kids I coached a decade ago share a lot of disheartening news as it relates to our presence in DFW now that they’ve gone through the recruiting process.
