I had a feeling the Big East wasn’t going to last long after we were invited, just didn’t seem stable having teams stretching from Connecticut to California. If the AAC goes too far west, I can see the same thing happening.
I get what you’re saying, but our new conference goes from Provo to Orlando…
I understand Birmingham but aren’t UAB’s sports governors the same as Bama’s? I’d always heard they got a raw deal on appropriations due to this set-up.
Incorrect?
If the AAC is able to invite 4 of the best of the MWC, it would be the best possible scenario.
That UAB was answerable to Bama (essentially) for funding and even major athletic decisions has long been a stumbling block for the program. At best, the Bama people can’t understand why UAB or UAH would really even want athletics programs and treats them as such. (At worst, they are so petty as to resent UAB and UAH having programs). UAH had a great hockey program that was eliminated, and then UAB football was eliminated. UAB football was brought back, and then UAH hockey was brought back.
The whole ordeal has probably been good for both UAB and UAH. Their programs are here to stay and so investments in them aren’t wasted. It was hard to sell people donating to a football stadium when the program could be eliminated at any time, but now that they’re back they’re getting that stadium. It’s all kind of proven that it’s not really Tuscaloosa’s decision to make after all.
I was very skeptical that UAB would ever be good expansion fodder. But combine that with Clark’s winning and the demonstration that people can show up to games, and it’s a much more attractive program than it was. I’m glad we’re not in a conference with them, but I’m not sure there is any better pick east of the Mississippi.
Drop Ole Miss and add @ ATM on Thursday after Alabama (5 day recovery) plus give ATM the previous week off.
PAC12 Spirit Prison. Lulz
“Frankly, my dear…”
I agree with your list, law97…good schools, good programs… Coastal is a top 20 FB program…Liberty strong too…those 2 plus UTSA and Lafayette are schools i would talk to…
rice brings ZERO to the conference…absolute zero…and would be a foolish choice…Their ability to deliver a part of this market is nil…
Speaking of foolish choices:
UGone football rancid and bleeding $ since leaving the AAC for the CYO. (Big East)
" the football program is responsible for 34.4% of the athletic department’s $43.3 million shortfall in the 2020 fiscal year, according to financial documents UConn filed to the NCAA. The department is also heavily subsidized by the university and student fees. Athletics received $43.9 million in subsidies in 2018-19, the second-highest total in the nation,"
JMU would not be a bad choice. Great college town in a beautiful area near the Shenandoah Mountains that is close to DC. About 3 -4 hour drive to Annapolis. Very good academics.
AAC could do worse (and probably will).
Mac I knew they were on a steep downslide, and they were bad. I caught a little bit of their games, I didn’t know until that, that it was one of the worst teams of the last 20+ years bad. But it is.
It’s really wild that Connecticut may go from having power conference school to one of only three states in the country whose flagship doesn’t even have a football team, but it’s probably the most likely outcome at this point.
How do you have a supposed respected university system with a respected business school and fritter away money like that?
That’s PR akin to Johns Hopkins hiring John Wayne Gace to do their med school marketing…
Say what you will about him… The man knew anatomy.
What does the AAC do next? Fire Mike Aresco?
Why do you say that ? He just received an extension. #KeepUp
Yes and I hope it will be money well spent for the AAC. Other than losing 4 of the highest profile members of his Conference, he’s doing great.
So why did you say is he going to get fired. And how does the Teams leaving to P5 have any negative effect towards the Commish. If anything like he mentioned it shows the power of the Conf-- P6. Anyhow np , maybe there was some sarcastic part, I didn’t pick up on. Leaving thread.
