Nah… not even close…
At least Tech’s defense looked ok. Bama got humiliated in all phases. Lost by 5 touchdowns to a school whose last bowl win was the Copper Bowl in 1991.
Yeah, you’re right. Tech’s defense was much better than ours and our backup QB’s offensive explosion was huge. ![]()
Tech beat us handily, but it wasn’t a curbstomping like the Ducks just put on Tech…
I wonder how it would have turned out if Conner had not been hurt to miss the last half of the game.
Our loss to Tech was honestly worse. Tech’s offense may have sucked but their defense still had them in that game until well into the 2nd half.
Except ours was early in the year.
No Weigman after injury in 2nd qtr of that game.
Sure, but it was the same week of the season for them.
Our offense was a no-show that day, just like Tech’s today.
Tech knocked Weigman out of the game. It was bad.
No… THEY GOT SHUTOUT.
And? They actually had opportunities to take the lead in the 2nd half. Plus outside of one fluke TD from Chris’s we were held to a FG. Both games were one sided but Tech had us handled well before half time.
That’s gold, I tell ya!
And my band’s name, if and when I can get it back together.
This thread is a great example of you never know where a thread will go. I posted this thread to recognize the added value Texas Tech brought to the B12 Conference with CFP payments and monetarily try and quantify those. Based on the CFP payments published, Texas Tech added $8M to the Conference by making it to the CFP Quarterfinals. Each Conference school will get a piece of that pie. That benefits all B12 schools.
Rather than view this as new money for the Conference, most of this thread has been negative to Texas Tech and the B12’s national standing. No question Texas Tech had a bad game, but in the grand scheme of things, Tech put more money in every B12 schools pocket.
It was a damned if they do, damned if they don’t kind of game. If Tech would have won, we’d hear about how they’re more holy than God from most of their fans.
On the other hand, if they had won, it would have made the conference look better and members would have received more money.
Our Texas Bowl payout could be about $6MM - not bad for a “meaningless bowl game.”
They weren’t the only team that laid an egg in the CFP today. Man Alabama was also killed.
Thank god it benefits us. The ACC lets Miami keep all their playoff money. They cater way too much to programs that won’t even be in the league in 6 years.

Any idea when the conference receives their payouts?
As far as football is concerned Alabama got plastered by a basketball school. Does this mean the suddenly wimpy SEC should be embarrassed?
As far as Tech is concerned, we will cash the check Tech got for us.
