Who Do we Hire?

Clemson Coordinators:

And Lupoi only makes 1.1 million. I like the Alabama defense, especially their attitude. Nice choice.

Skip Holtz (La Tech)
Neal Brown (Troy)
Bill Clark (UAB)
Larry Fedora (UNC)

Sorry Pops but times have changed… The truth is we made a bad hire! I believe we’re all still scratching our heads at “Todd Orlando is the Named the Interim Head Coach” then Major Apple White is the guy! The truth of the matter is you can find a good OC or mentor a rising star position Coach… However a Stud DC is a GEM! Old cheesy line “Offenses Win Games but Defenses Win Championships”. It cheesy but true. Now that the shipped has sailed on our chances with Orlando… we have got stop the bleeding. I am not sure if you were at the game but I was. I was sitting on the front row behind the bench. I watched the coaching staff stare at the field like a cows staring at a new gate. They had no clue what to do. Probably why we punted from our own 30 and started the half off with an on side kick. The University of Houston is a Dream Job… Stepping Stone or NOT… HIRE THE BEST AND DON’T SETTLE FOR THE REST!

The benchmarks are established with Briles, Sumlin and Herman.

A strong, hungry P5 coordinator who can bring in solid staff and recruit Texas.

If you could fire him today, with whom would you replace him?

Bill O’Brien, as he will be unemployed following the first week of the NFL playoffs.

That is the main point starring at us. What is doubly concerning to me is the fact that we have had some highly questionable hires in the last few years.

At the same time other programs like UCF have flourished. Our record, any record indicates where you are. Hiring Chris Pezman was a huge decision. Now the he has to do his job to make the right decision. I trust Chris to put us in the best possible position to start the next season.
We often have written about sexy offenses. I will be fine with a hard nosed Coach based on fundamentals. We have been horrible on basic tackling, coverage & our last game exposed our OL once again. We can make as many excuses as we want. This is on the Coaches and the HC.
Instead of feeling sorry for ourselves it is time to analyze what is working well at other programs.
What are they doing right & can we emulate their key decisions? A possible expansion is coming around the corner. We don’t have the time to mess this up.

Buddy Ryan (deceased) and Kevin Gilbride…make it happen now.

Disagree…a good OC or DC can come in and possibly be the next head coach here…if they are good, then they shouldn’t have a problem moving on anyways…win or lose…

That’s a good point, Butch. Here’s the two coordinators I would hire. I think both would be eager to come here for the reasons you mention and also because one was on a staff that was fired at the end of the season and the other was at Texas with Applewhite and is now in C-USA. Kevin Johns was OC at Texas Tech. Kingsbury called plays, but Johns was heavily involved in the offense and surely learned from KK. Plus he had success as an OC at Indiana and Western Michigan and as passing game coordinator at Northwestern before that. Blake Baker is a former Houston area high school coach who worked under Manny Diaz as a GA at Texas and is now the DC at Louisiana Tech. The Bulldogs have finished 38 and 54 in scoring defense the past two seasons…

Lol, I am not the guy who sends a bunch of random emails expecting that to make a change. But I would love for Fertitta to have all my contact info. If I ever was to email an administrator, I would sure have my full email signature with cell number. Otherwise it wouldn’t seem credible.

These would be good hires. I had looked at Baker earlier in the season and he was on the coaching staff with CMA at Texas. He’s an aggressive play-caller who values turnovers…something that could fit well here.

Johns would be a good hire as well and it would be a good opportunity for him. Good recruiter too.

Mark Levy

North Shore’s head coach. If we’re gonna burn it all down…

Gundy seemed to be a pretty good recruiter too

Sam has won the Southland twice under Keeler
