Who Do we Hire?

Well pay him 2.5 or something lol

Littrell would be a step up but think stuck with the Applewhite clownshow one more year so they can get the HC really want.

I always enjoy reading your post. However, there is no way that CMA is a winner…much less a HC !!

The dull look on his face is not hiding anything. It is representative.

Forgot to add I really do believe kingsbury would be very successful here if we decided to reach out to him.

He is the OC at USC now, doubt he would leave there

Like Pitt for 2015 yesterday was a foreshadowing of how 2019 is going to be. 2019 is going to be ugly regardless of who our head coach is. Our defense was awful in 2018 and in 2019 it will be awful-er if you look at who is leaving and I’m not just talking about Ed. We can talk about young players growing and getting more experience (losing experience) that’s not going to offset it.

Our non-conf and conference schedule are both seriously upgraded next year. We’re essentially replacing Tech and Zona with WSU and OU, neither of those games are at TDECU. Also UNT replaces Rice. Then we’re replacing Temple and USF with Cincy and UCF. UCF is a legit national power now no matter what happens vs LSU and Cincy is back on an upward trajectory.

With that opinion of 2019 I’m fine with keeping CMA. Lame duck year for a lame duck coach take our lumps and move on. Terrible for King’s senior year and several skilled offensive players but it is what it is. I don’t think we win 6 games in 2019.

Is it worth taking a chance on a great FCS coach? Gotta be plenty of candidates. I know that doesn’t necessarily scale upwards as many FCS schools are abysmal opponents for the better FCS teams. That said, plenty of candidates to wave a bigger paycheck at now that their playoffs ended.

Briles was a splash hire, and man, was it glorious for a bunch of games. Gonna be hard to top that with any HC, OC, or DC hire.

Dan, I see your reasoning, and the Pitt analogy is likely apt, though King will still get lots of attention in the press and in opponents’ game planning. Please, though, let’s not waste a season we can use to rebuild if we can somehow unload Major.

Why not consider Kliff Kingsbury or Dana Holgerson??

Jazz I see your reasoning as well and am fine if we can get a good HC for 2019. There are teams in lower G5 and FCS that had double digit wins this year, more than normal so we may be able to poach one of their HCs. Overall I’m just depressed on how 2019 is going to be regardless of HC. Luckily I also love college basketball.

Holgersen ain’t moving to UH. He finished #15 in the AP poll. I understand his relationship with WVU admin has been rocky, but that ain’t enough to give up the opportunity and money without seeing a huge upside. Like all coaches he thinks he’s just a play or two away from the playoffs.

Kliff will have fun and sun at USC without the strain of being HC for a year. If Helton gets canned we may get a look at Kingsbury next year (when Opie gets run off).

If USC cans Helton, Kliff will be their number one target. That, city life, and the beach are the primary reasons he took the OC job.

So Helton himself is more likely into the mix. Heck, while everyone is throwing out Holgerson & Fritz, why not add Sumlin back into it too

Be sure and give TF your full name, address and phone number so he can follow up on your expert advice. Maybe also your bank account number:joy:

K.C. Keeler from Sam Houston State. Very successful FCS coach in multiple stops. Delaware(national champs) 4 time Jr. College Champ coach has won two titles at SHSU and gone deep into the playoffs. 226-90-1 record.

He had a bad year this year, maybe due to lack of QB talent this year

The Alabama DC.

Mike Tomlin might be available soon.

I love the Troy coach. We need to get him before someone else does…he’s my no. 1 candidate…

I’m with you on the Willie Fritz hire. He takes the talent on hand and gets the most out of it…everywhere he has been.
